This was one Committee hearing of the Environmental and Public Works Committee chaired by Senator Boxer (D-CA) that I would have paid money to attend. Seeing Senators Inhofe (R-OK) and Barrasso (R-WY) going after EPA Director Lisa Jackson would have been priceless.
Senate Democrats still don't get it yet when it comes to the environment. In the 70's it was the 'Ice Age' is coming and now for the last decade or so it is 'Global Warming' is going to destroy the world even to the point of blaming all the cold temperatures and blizzards with record snowfalls on 'Global Warming.' Makes you wonder how much money was put in the pockets of people like Al Gore who supported Global Warming as much as anyone while continuing to fly his private plane everywhere and using more electricity in his home in TN that any other homeowner by far. Typical Democrat hypocrite. By all accounts Gore made millions off his 'Global Warming' hoax. "There's a sucker born every minute" comes to mind.
Senator John Barrasso’s reminded everyone of the consensus in the 1970s that the climate had begun to cool so significantly that the world needed massive government interventions in energy production and consumption to survive it. Barrasso quotes from Newsweek and Time articles of the period. Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) attempts to ride to EPW Chair Barbara Boxer’s rescue by introducing an article that claims the global-cooling consensus of the 1970s was a “myth,” and Boxer urges Udall to add it to the record. But that’s just the set-up Jim Inhofe needed to complete this two-man demolition of “consensus” and to expose the main White House adviser on climate change as a chronic crank, as the Daily Caller reports:
The exchange started with Barrasso addressing the committee’s witness, Environmental Protection Agency Director Lisa Jackson.
“Forty years ago, the same scientists that are predicting the end of the world now from global warming were predicting the end of the world from global cooling,” said Barrasso. “So if we had committed the same amount of taxpayer resources and government manpower that the administration now wants us to commit to prevent global warming — if we’d done that prevent global cooling, we wouldn’t be the most prosperous nation on earth.” …
Still later, Inhofe got into the science debate by citing a 1971 study by Dr. John Holdren, who just so happens to be President Obama’s advisor on science technology. In that study Holdren wrote, “The effects of a new ice age on agriculture and the supportability of large human populations scarcely need elaboration here.” Holdren went on to write that the effects could “generate a tidal wave of proportions unprecedented in recorded history.”
A visibly satisfied Inhofe then turned to Boxer, and stated, “So even the president’s people are agreed with me, Madam Chairwoman!”

One of the first statewide events I attended after we were transferred to Oklahoma had Senator Jim Inhofe as one of the Speakers. Always remember how he called Global Warming 'junk science' and I burst out laughing -- now he has been proven right. Since the Democrats took over the Senate, he has been a thorn in Sen Boxer's side the whole time. It is rumored if she is on an elevator and he gets on, she gets off.
Looking forward to 2012 when Republicans take back the Senate and Senator Inhofe is once again in charge of the Environmental and Public Works Committee. The big question is 'Will Barbara Boxer stay a member of this Committee if she is no longer Chairman?' I am betting she will NEVER be the head of the Minority with Senator Inhofe as Chair.
Think the first order of business in 2013 should be to put the EPA back under a cabinet secretary so all these regulations they instituted for years that have been hurting our economy are brought under control with some common sense instead of hysterics of 'the sky is falling.' Making the EPA a separate entity was one of the worst mistakes ever that goes back to President Nixon. Senator Boxer has been pushing for the EPA to be a cabinet position and President George W. Bush agreed. Why would he agree? EPA does not need to be given more control in our opinion.
I haven’t seen that kind of a setup and payoff since Bob Hope and Bing Crosby made movies with Dorothy Lamour. That was during the period when American industry and economic expansion held the national consensus rather than Chicken Little hypotheses with chronically faulty models and contradictory results. Man, I guess I am getting old.
More news from the Climate Scientists -- this time to debunk a Hollywood movie, "Day After Tomorrow" and tell the people the truth. It is pretty bad when Hollywood can make a movie and have any credibility. The only explanation we can come up with for this whole debacle was that it was a way to control the world's economy and make some people very rich in the process. If we didn't know better (actually we don't), we would say this plot on Global Warming and now the Ice Age was hatched from George Soros using Al Gore as his puppet.
If there is anyone in this Country, in addition to Joe Biden, who would be duped into being a puppet it would be Al Gore. Gore has made millions, and flies around in his own jet leaving 'carbon prints' everywhere but that is okay because it is Al Gore, the Nobel prize winner, and expert on 'Global Warming.' Gore is clueless which is beginning to look like the criteria from some of the Nobel Prize winners who are politicians. Just look at the latest Nobel Prize Winner Obama who received the prize for what he was going to do after he took office not what he had done.
All this hype about the Gulf Stream slowing down and an 'Ice Age' coming has turned out not to be true. These environmentalist wackos (Rush was right) cannot make up their mind -- one day it is Global Warming and the next day it is an Ice Age is coming. Reminds me of the children's book 'Chicken Little' and the 'Sky is Falling' except that is a book you read to children and these are grown men acting like 'Chicken Little' which is stunning. Makes you shake your head that someone like Gore was the VP and came within votes of being President in 2000! Thank you Florida!
Slowly sanity is being returned to the discussion of climate as more and more of the 'sky is falling' group of climatology scientist's theories have been debunked because they used flawed data or tweaked the data so it would fit their political agenda. Either way in the words of Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK), it was 'Junk Science.' The findings on the Gulf Stream is just one more strike against the Al Gore and his 'Sky is Falling' scientists who put politics ahead of facts.

The Gulf Stream does not appear to be slowing down, say US scientists who have used satellites to monitor tell-tale changes in the height of the sea.
Confirming work by other scientists using different methodologies, they found dramatic short-term variability but no longer-term trend.
A slow-down - dramatised in the movie The Day After Tomorrow - is projected by some models of climate change.
The research is published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
The stream is a key process in the climate of western Europe, bringing heat northwards from the tropics and keeping countries such as the UK 4-6C warmer than they would otherwise be.
It forms part of a larger movement of water, the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, which is itself one component of the global thermohaline system of currents.
Between 2002 and 2009, the team says, there was no trend discernible - just a lot of variability on short timescales.
The satellite record going back to 1993 did suggest a small increase in flow, although the researchers cannot be sure it is significant.
"The changes we're seeing in overturning strength are probably part of a natural cycle," said Josh Willis from Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California. "The slight increase in overturning since 1993 coincides with a decades-long natural pattern of Atlantic heating and cooling."
Short measures
The first observations suggesting the circulation was slowing down emerged in 2005, in research from the UK's National Oceanography Centre (NOC).
Using an array of detectors across the Atlantic and comparing its readings against historical records, scientists suggested the volume of cold water returning southwards could have fallen by as much as 30% in half a century - a significant decline.
The warm surface water sinks in the Arctic and flows back southwards at the bottom of the ocean, driving the circulation.
However, later observations by the same team showed that the strength of the flow varied hugely on short timescales - from one season to the next, or even shorter. But they have not found any clear trend since 2004.

Fantasy and reality
Driven by Hollywood, a popular image of a Gulf Stream slowdown shows a sudden catastrophic event driving snowstorms across the temperate lands of western Europe and eastern North America.
That has always been fantasy - as, said Josh Willis, is the idea that a slow-down would trigger another ice age.
"But the Atlantic overturning circulation is still an important player in today's climate," he added.
"Some have suggested cyclic changes in the overturning may be warming and cooling the whole North Atlantic over the course of several decades and affecting rainfall patterns across the US and Africa, and even the number of hurricanes in the Atlantic."

This morning I received the link to this story in my email from a friend in Iowa and couldn't quit laughing. How perfect to do an ice sculpture of Al Gore of Global Warming fame after we were all hit by the blizzard during Christmas. The blizzard was then followed by extremely cold temperatures near zero or below. The Madison County GOP commissioned a chainsaw ice sculptor to come down from Waterloo and transform a 900-pound block of ice into a frozen likeness of Vice President & Global Warming Grand Poobah Al Gore.
This is hands-down the funniest thing I’ve ever seen come out of a Republican Central Committee.
Russ from Winterset managed to get a few snapshots of the sculpture during the carving process on Friday; he also came back on Saturday with an AoSHQ approved snack food. Dude, that’s hilarious.
The County Committee is selling raffle tickets for one dollar, and the person who guesses the date and time that the last little piece of this ice block is reduced to liquid form wins 50% of the net proceeds of the raffle (the other 50% will be donated to the local non-profit charity of the winner’s choice).

After going through years of "the sky is falling" warnings by the Global Warming group led by Al Gore and some people from Hollywood, it is refreshing to finally see the truth admitted. Too many people bought into the fact that people caused Global Warming who are now discovering that the science that backed it up was false and it truly is 'junk science' as stated many times by Senator Inhofe.
What are the Hollywood crowd and Al Gore going to do now that the facts have come out that the scientists involved in pushing Global Warming are admitting it was a fraud. When the scientists didn't get the result they wanted, they would substitute data until they had the right result pointing to Global Warming.
The world was scammed starting with Al Gore and then some of the Hollywood stars that jumped on board the Gore Global Warming Train. Are these same people still going to show up in Copenhagen pushing Gloobal Warming? The jury is out on that one!
IPCC Researchers Admit Global Warming Fraud New American MONDAY, 23 NOVEMBER 2009 REBECCA TERRELL AND ED HISERODT
Global warming alarmists are scrambling to save face after hackers stole hundreds of incriminating e-mails from a British university and published them on the Internet. The messages were pirated from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia (UEA) and reveal correspondence between British and American researchers engaged in fraudulent reporting of data to favor their own climate change agenda.
UEA officials confirmed one of their servers was hacked, and several of the scientists involved admitted the authenticity of the messages, according to the New York Times. The article opined, "The evidence pointing to a growing human contribution to global warming is so widely accepted that the hacked material is unlikely to erode the overall argument."
Climatologist Patrick J. Michaels challenged that position. "This is not a smoking gun, this is a mushroom cloud." The e-mails implicate scores of researchers, most of whom are associated with the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an organization many skeptics believe was created exclusively to provide evidence of anthropogenic global warming (AGW).
Remember the first time I heard Sen Inhofe talk about 'junk science' and nodding my head in agreement. Figured it was only a matter of time until the 'real' scientists stepped forward with facts to debunk the 'junk science' of Al Gore and others on global warming. In the meantime, Al Gore has made millions and millions off this 'junk science' flying around in his private jet which the Green movement didn't seem to mind. Another Democrat scam job that the Green Movement swallowed hook, line, and sinker.
No one including the Senator thinks we should waste natural resources but to say almost everything we do leads to global warming pointed at what it was -- 'junk science' as the Gore people were using flawed data and methodology.
Senators Inhofe and Nickles along with Cong J.C. Watts were responsible for bringing the National Weather Service and Storms Prediction Center to the Norman Campus of the University of Oklahoma. OU is a leading research university and the home of the brand-new National Weather Center. The School of Meteorology which is part of the new College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences is now housed within the National Weather Center, which also contains the National Severe Storms Laboratory and the Storm Prediction Center. The College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences is also home to the Department of Geography and the Geographic Information Science program.
With some of the leading professors and researchers in the world at OU working in these programs, new advances in geography, GIS, and meteorology are being made daily. Emphasis on interdisciplinary projects involving all three areas allows the College to address current challenges in areas of renewable energy, climate change, and sustainability of the natural and built environments. The real facts not 'junk science' about what is happening on climate change are coming out.
Why anyone would think that Al Gore had all the answers as he shopped around for people that agreed with him is beyond common sense. His radical approach now being debunked shows that Al Gore was nothing but an opportunitist and scam artist who has made millions and millions of dollars. Where is the outrage from the public about what Gore has been doing? Or for that fact where is the media? Some of the media not only made fun of Senator Inhofe but considered him to not come close to measuring up to Al Gore when in fact, Senator has had the facts for a long time.
Senator Inhofe has understood the facts a lot better then Al Gore who ignored facts for years including making a movie. As a proponent of research by helping bring the NWS and Storms Prediction Center to OU to partner with the university has led to the research we see today. Inhofe knew what he was doing unlike the scaremonger Gore. While Gore has been dealing with fuzzy math, Inhofe has been dealing with facts.
It is so refreshing to see Senator Inhofe proven right and Al Gore outed for the scaremonger, opportunist, and scam artist he is after he has made by some accounts a 'billion dollars' while he preyed on people that wanted a better environnment with his flawed data. Al Gore should be investigated but we figure that is too much to ask since he is a Democrat.

Senator Inhofe notes that this is the year those questioning the consensus are being heard. It is more than that, though. There have been several major science developments. Among them are,
First, the continuing lack of warming during this decade, contrary to the predictions of the IPCC, to the extent that the organization itself and supporting scientists have had to acknowledge that failure and create excuses. The alarmists also have additional unwelcome anamolies which include increasing Arctic ice, slowing ocean level rise, ocean heat measurements, etc.
Secondly, it has been revealed to many shocked scientists that the HADCRUT, which was placed in charge of the world's definitive compilation of temperature data, has "lost" or eliminated the original data of weather stations worldwide. Since that data was entrusted to the institution, it became the sole repository of much data, and all that is seems to remain now is the "value added data" and it is now impossible to verify the accuracy of the manipulations HADCRUT performed, and continues to perform. This is especially disconcerting since HadCrut "corrections" over the years have consistently had the effect of enhancing 20th century warming and their methodology is clearly questionable. This distressing story has been developing rapidly over this year due to HADCRUT's. Thirdly, MIT Prof.Lindzen et.al. published a seminal paper (www.drroyspencer.com/Lindzen-and-Choi-GRL-2009.pdf) directly analyzing the energy balance of Earth using satellite data now available, and those calculations directly show that the effect of increasing CO2 is incorrectly incorporated by ALL of the climate models. Also in the research front, two new mechanisms Meehl's new mechanism involving Sun,stratosphere and oceans, (http://www.ucar.edu/news/releases/2009/solarcycle2.jsp) in addition to the Svenson's long proposed Cosmic Ray mechanism and Lindzen's Adaptive Iris, have been proposed and partly verified that have an amplifying effect on changes of energy from the Sun gained ground in explaining how Solar energy changes can be directly amplified. The alarmists have long denied that such positive feedback exists, though historical data has long suggested that it must.In addition to the research and data developments, professional scientific organizations have come increasingly under pressure this year by their memberships for espousing the alarmist viewpoints. WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, perhaps Congress’ most vocal skeptic of man-made global warming, essentially declared victory Wednesday in a lengthy speech on the Senate floor.
“I proudly declare 2009 as the ‘Year of the Skeptic,’ the year in which scientists who question the so-called global warming consensus are being heard,’’ the Oklahoma Republican said.
“Until this year, any scientist, reporter or politician who dared raise even the slightest suspicion about the science behind global warming was dismissed and repeatedly mocked.’’
Inhofe recalled his own 2003 remarks in which he said much of the debate over global warming was predicated on fear rather than science.
Alarmists warned of a future plagued by catastrophic flooding, economic dislocations, droughts and mosquito-borne diseases, he said. Inhofe also recalled his most famous comment in which he suggested that man-made global warming would turn out to be “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.”
“Today, I have been vindicated,’’ he said.
Inhofe pointed to the upcoming international conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, which previously was viewed as a chance for nations to make some kind of a binding agreement on greenhouse gases.
White House aides said Sunday that a fully binding legal agreement would be put off until a December 2010 meeting in Mexico City, The Associated Press reported. Inhofe said Wednesday that “the reality, of course, is that Copenhagen will be a disaster.’’
Inhofe is the top Republican on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. He recently helped lead a Republican boycott of that panel’s efforts to act on a major climate change bill. Democrats were forced to vote the measure out of committee without amendments, and an effort already is under way to come up with a different bill.
That measure now is not expected to be taken up in the Senate until next year.
These two articles that are part of our coverage on Global Warming. Some scientific methods that provided the basis for Global Warming are providing to be flawed. How long before others are also found to be suspect and Sen Inhofe is proven right about junk science being used? For Obama and the Democrats to push Cap and Trade based on faulty methodology is nothing more then a power and tax grab.

Reading this article reminded us of Al Gore's home in TN. While Al Gore was running around the world touting manmade Global Warming on his Gulfstream Private Jet, his Mansion was spinning the energy dials in Feb 2007.
The think tank report cited figures from the Nashville Electric Service that showed Gore burned through 22,619 kilowatt-hours of electricity at his house last August, a rate that is twice the level used by an average U.S. household in an entire year.
We are not opposed to energy savings like using solar because we have had the experience of using solar hot water and it is great. What we oppose is the hysteria and outright lies on Global Warming told by the likes of Al Gore illustrated below with FACTs. Instead of being honest Democrats like Obama and Gore are adding to the hysteria of Global Warming with lies and half truths. Cap and Trade is nothing more then a payoff to contributors not real change. Obama and his Administration are using some junk science to try to ram their agenda through.
If this Administration and Democrats really cared, they would be promoting entrepeneurs to develop new and improved ways to save energy which make sense rather then wanting to tax everyone. There is a reason people call this bill Cap and Tax as Democrats never met a tax they didn't like.

How the global warming industry is based on one MASSIVE lie

For the growing band of AGW “Sceptics” the following story is dynamite. And for those who do believe in Al Gore’s highly profitable myth about “Man-Made Global Warming”, it will no doubt feel as comfortable as the rectally inserted suicide bomb that put paid to an Al Qaeda operative earlier this week.
Now read on.
Those of you who saw An Inconvenient Truth may remember, if you weren’t asleep by that stage, the key scene where big green Al deploys his terrifying graph to show how totally screwed we all are by man-made global warming. This graph – known as the Hockey Stick Curve – purports to show rising global temperatures through the ages. In the part representing the late twentieth century it shoots up almost vertically. To emphasise his point that this is serious and that if we don’t act NOW we’re doomed, Al Gore – wearing a wry smile which says: “Sure folks, this is kinda funny. But don’t forget how serious it is too” – climbs on to a mini-lift in order to be able to reach the top of the chart. Cue consensual gasps from his parti pris audience.
Except that the graph – devised in 1998 by a US climatologist called Dr Michael Mann - is based on a huge lie, as Sceptics have been saying for quite some time. The first thing they noticed is that this “Hockey Stick” (based on tree ring data, one of the most accurate ways of recording how climate changes over the centuries) is that it seemed completely to omit the Medieval Warming Period.
According to Mann’s graph, the hottest period in modern history was NOT the generally balmy era between 900 and 1300 but the late 20th century. This led many sceptics, among them a Canadian mathematician named Steve McIntyre to smell a rat. He tried to replicate Mann’s tree ring work but was stymied by lack of data: ie the global community of climate-fear-promotion scientists closed ranks and refused to provide him with any information that might contradict their cause.
This is the point where British climate change scientists appear – and in a most unedifying light. As Christopher Booker has reported the Met Office, its Hadley Centre in Exeter and the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at University of East Anglia are among the primary drivers of global climate change alarmism. Their data has formed the basis for the IPCC’s “we’re all doomed” reports; their scientists – among them Professor Phil Jones and tree ring expert Professor Keith Briffa – have been doughty supporters of Mann’s Hockey Stick theory and of the computer models showing inexorably rising temperatures.
Hence their misleading predictions of that “barbecue summer” we never had. As Booker says: “Part of the reason why the Met Office has made such a mess of its forecasts for Britain is that they are based on the same models which failed to predict the declining trend in world temperatures since 2001.

Yamal: A "Divergence" Problem by Steve McIntyre on September 27th, 2009 The second image below is, in my opinion, one of the most disquieting images ever presented at Climate Audit.
Two posts ago, I observed that the number of cores used in the most recent portion of the Yamal archive at CRU was implausibly low. There were only 10 cores in 1990 versus 65 cores in 1990 in the Polar Urals archive and 110 cores in the Avam-Taimyr archive. These cores were picked from a larger population - measurements from the larger population remain unavailable.
One post ago, I observed that Briffa had supplemented the Taimyr data set (which had a pronounced 20th century divergence problem) not just with the Sidorova et al 2007 data from Avam referenced in Briffa et al 2008, but with a Schweingruber data set from Balschaya Kamenka (russ124w), also located over 400 km from Taimyr.
Given this precedent, I examined the ITRDB data set for potential measurement data from Yamal that could be used to supplement the obviously deficient recent portion of the CRU archive (along the lines of Brifffa's supplementing the Taimyr data set.)
