"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Paterson will leave upstate N.Y. district without a congressman

Now the Democrats have figured out how to keep Republicans from picking up another seat in a special election. Confuse the whole situation and leave the seat vacant until the general election. Got to hand it to Governor Patterson that he is keeping up the Democrat tradition of putting politics over the interests of constituents this time in the 29th Congressional District of New York. They deserve better than what Patterson is proposing if anyone can figure out what that is. Bottom line is that Pelosi doesn't want another Republican in the House and Patterson is agreeing.

Can you imagine how the Democrats would have squealed if Republicans had done this?

A special election should have been called immediately to fill the vacancy. One question we would like to know is if his Congressional staff is still being paid and all the offices open? We received a recording to leave our name and number and they would get back to us which tells us there are some staffers still working.

The people of the 29th Congressional District have a right to represented in Congress but the Democrats are denying them that right. Would say it is a pretty safe bet that this district will not go Democrat in November. In fact, if this was not a GOP leaning seat Patterson would have called for an immediate election to seat another Democrat. His lack of action is telling.

New York voters better think long and hard before they vote for another Democrat for Governor but that is probably falling on deaf ears as they are so used to scandal in the Democrats ranks in New York.

Paterson will leave upstate N.Y. district without a congressman

New York’s 29th Congressional District has been vacant ever since Democrat Rep. Eric Massa resigned. And now the GOP-leaning seat will remain vacant until November. And possibly until next year.

New York Gov. David Paterson, D, has said he will call a special election Nov. 2 — the same day as the general election. And there is some disagreement within the Board of Elections, which has two Republican and two Democratic member, as to whether this is legal.
State law requires that special elections for Congress be held “not less than thirty nor more than forty days from the date of the proclamation.” Patterson would thus have to make his official proclamation in late September or early October for a Nov. 2 special election to appear on the ballot concurrently with the general election contest.

However, state law also stipulates that when a vacancy occurs in an election year, “a special election shall not…be called after September nineteenth of such year.” If Paterson makes his proclamation on Sept. 19, then the election would be held 44 days after the proclamation, which is not legal. If he makes it after Sept. 19, that is not legal either.

So Paterson is either planning an illegal special election, or he’s saying there will be a special election that isn’t really a special election — that there will just be an empty seat until a November general election fills it for a January inauguration.

Either way, this is a rather naked attempt to keep a Republican out of Congress by holding the district vacant.

The Fix was In

Since New York Governor Patterson knew for six months that the Obama plan was to try the KSM in civilian Federal Court in NYC, who else had the same information? Why wait six months to tell us. If their aim was not to influence the elections, it backfired as Republicans won the Governor's races in New Jersey and Virginia.

With this information NY CD-23 most likely wouldn't have gone to a Democrat although Hoffman has now rescinded his concession with the race tightening. That would have been one less vote for Pelosicare.

Shows how this Obama Administration puts politics above everything. We cannot believe that they are going to do this to the people of New York. Why risk this when so much of the evidence cannot be used that would have been used in a military tribunal? Can someone please tell us why Obama would risk allowing the mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to go free because it makes no sense.

Who is giving Obama orders on what to do since in 2006 he said that military tribunals should by used for KSM trials. (See Video of Sen Obama in 2006 -- Try KSM in Military Tribunals)

The Fix Was In

If the White House decided months ago to move KSM to New York, why didn't we find out till last week?

JAMES TARANTO

New York's Gov. David Paterson is not happy with the White House's decision to bring Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other enemy combatants to New York for civilian trials, reports WCBS-TV:

"This is not a decision that I would have made. I think terrorism isn't just attack, it's anxiety and I think you feel the anxiety and frustration of New Yorkers who took the bullet for the rest of the country," he said.

Paterson's comments break with Democrats, who generally support the President's decision.

"Our country was attacked on its own soil on September 11, 2001 and New York was very much the epicenter of that attack. Over 2,700 lives were lost," he said. "It's very painful. We're still having trouble getting over it. We still have been unable to rebuild that site and having those terrorists so close to the attack is gonna be an encumbrance on all New Yorkers."

Paterson also said that the White House warned him six months ago this very situation would happen.
Whoa, hold on a second, Governor? The White House told you six months ago that they were going to put your constituents through this? Gee, thanks for letting us know.

Here's a question: If the White House made up its mind about this six months ago--that would be in May, roughly four months after President Obama's inauguration--why did it wait until last week to make the announcement? That it was the week after an election is bound to raise suspicions that the timing was politically motivated.
