"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) on Leaving the Senate

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Senator Olympia Snowe has always been an independent minded Senator who will work across the aisle to get things done for Americans. Today she is leaving the Senate because nothing is getting done because of the obstructionist. I have always respected Senator Snowe and when her vote was needed on Defense, she was there. She did a magnificent job in saving facilities from closing in New England during the last BRAC. Her presentation was one of the best I have ever seen. Wish her the best on her retirement! She is going to continue to speak out, some of us with common sense left in the Republican will continue to listen to her.

Senator Snowe represents traditional Republicans but the GOP has changed from the days of the traditional to going far left.  How many people are going to leave the Republican Party due to what is happening today where lying by the candidates for President/Vice President and the RNC Chair has become standard operation.  We saw it in the primaries against other Republicans and now we are seeing the lies told about the Democrats.  There is something about Romney talking about Obama being mean is laughable when he is one of the nastiest candidates I have ever witnessed and Paul Ryan is following right in his footsteps.

I have been a Republican for 37 years and voted in these Republicans in the House of Representatives because I never want one party in charge of both the House and Senate. I thought both sides would come to common ground. Boy was I wrong! Because of these "new" Repuplicans, I am voting the straight Democratic ticket in November.
