"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Cong Boehner: Dems Must Listen to the American People (Healthcare)

Today on Fox News, Cong John Boehner (R-OH) said: Dems Must Listen to the American People & Scrap Their Govt Takeover of Health Care (see video below)

Are Democrats going to listen? We have our serious doubts since they haven't listened to their constituents on health care since last summer. Only thing changed is that Sen Scott Brown was elected and the Democrats no longer enjoy a 60-seat filibuster proof margin. Why didn't the Democrats pass the healthcare legislation when they had the 60 vote majority if they think it is so popular with the American people?

The wrangling back and forth behind closed doors between House and Senate democrats on the opposing versions of the Healthcare Bills resulted in no bill being passed before Sen Scott Brown was seated. Now it looks like the Democrats led by Obama want Republican bi-partisan cover for their bill but are only willing to bring them into the process AFTER the Democrats have crafted a new bill behind closed doors.

Boehner is right -- a clean sheet of paper to begin the healthcare process or nothing. Democrats as usual are playing politics to try and get their bill passed knowing that the American people don't want their 2,000+ page version. Bi-partisan would be a trap for Republicans and allow the Democrats to say they (Republicans) support this new Democrat bill written behind closed doors with no Republican input.

Good job by Cong Boehner for standing up and saying NO!

Statement by Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) on the Proposed Feb. 25 Health Care Summit:
Washington (February 13) - House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement after being informed of details about the health care summit being planned by congressional Democrats and the White House for February 25: "A productive bipartisan discussion should begin with a clean sheet of paper. We now know that instead of starting the 'bipartisan' health care 'summit' on Feb. 25 with a clean sheet of paper, the president and his party intend to arrive with a new bill written behind closed doors exclusively by Democrats -- a backroom deal that will transform one-sixth of our nation's economy and affect every family and small business in America. They will then engage a largely handpicked audience in a televised 'dialogue' according to a script they have largely pre-determined. They will do this as a precursor to embarking on a legislative course that Democratic congressional aides acknowledge has also been pre-determined -- a partisan course that relies on parliamentary tricks to circumvent the will of the American people and engineer a pre-determined outcome. It doesn't sound much like bipartisanship to me -- and frankly, it doesn't sound much like democracy."
