Sarah Palin Should Spend Less Time on Fox News and More Time Brushing Up on U.S. History

Was not going to post this weekend but this was too good to pass up!  Wonder if it is going to be the media's fault for quoting what she said.  This comes from Forbes not some media outlet that some conservatives consider the enemy because they toss Palin hardball questions.  Not sure she can answer very many softball questions if she doesn't even know the story of Paul Revere.  

Earlier we had Michelle Bachmann in Concord, NH, not once but twice referring to Concord, NH, as the place the Revolutionary War started and then conservatives saying it gets mixed up all the time.  Give me a break!  Lexington-Concord is in Massachusetts and was in Massachusetts when I was in American History and also when my kids took American history.  

Why are some conservatives so fast to defend dumb statements out of women Republicans but will attack the Democrats if they made the same statement?  When someone makes a dumb statement no matter the party, it is dumb.  Makes you wonder about the aides to some of these candidates.  Right now the GOP women are not looking very smart but don't you know, it is all the media's fault is the line that is used all the time.

Margaret Thatcher was very smart and no one had to use 'it was the media's fault" as she took any and all interviews.  The British press for the most part are much tougher on their politicians.  

Guess I am going to lose my conservative badge for daring to pick on Palin but she makes some of the dumbest statements that young and older people laugh about.  It was in poor taste to attack Romney in MA when he was announcing for President in NH, but he got the last laugh as her basic history is lacking.  There is a saying that applies to anyone wanting to run for office who doesn't understand basic history:

Edmund Burke (1729-1797) statement, "Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it."

We agree with Forbes that maybe we need a Jeopardy style contest for our candidates instead of debates which usually have some softball questions.  Is it too much to ask that the Republican candidate know their history and are able to answer any and all questions with no softballs?  Why do we have to settle because someone has alleged star power?  Wouldn't you rather have an intelligent candidate?  I know I would.

Sarah Palin joined a number of other GOP hopefuls in New Hampshire last week making the typical pre-campaign rounds. But unlike Mitt Romney, who managed to focus his speaking on the economy and his business experience, Palin decided to give her fans a brief history lesson on Paul Revere:

He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.

If this is not evidence enough that the U.S. education system needs fixing, I don’t know what is. Here’s the video of Palin making all her contenders, from Herman Cain (who has made his own recent gaffes in regards to the Constitution) to Michelle Bachmann, look like damn geniuses.

All this leads me to believe that instead of presidential debates, what the GOP race needs is a series of Jeopardy contests, all focused on politics, economics, and American history. That would tell us much more, I’m afraid, about the candidates, than any debate ever could.
