"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Football Saturday and Labor Day Weekend!

Today is the official kick-off for the college season here in Norman, OK, and towns across America.  Living in a college town of a major football program is something everyone who loves football should experience.  When the University of Oklahoma Sooners take the field tonight, it will start our 14th season in the stands since moving to Norman from Boerne, Texas, after they announced the closing of Kelly AFB.  Our choice was between Robins AFB, GA, and Tinker AFB, OK.  That was simple -- Tinker AFB and live in Norman, the home of The University of Oklahoma.

Expectation has been high since Bob Stoops took over the Sooner program in 1999, but this year after all our injuries last year and the experience our players received it is ever higher.  Utah State this week and next week it is Florida State who I normally root for as well but not next week.  The person who encouraged me to do this site is a Florida State grad.  Next week we will be on opposite sides like we were in the National Championship in 2000 when we won! The game many of us are looking forward to -- the Air Force Academy follows on the next Saturday.  It will be great to see the cadets here in Norman -- very patriotic area.

First time since we have been going to OU games, that we are not going to roast today as a cold front moved through Thursday night.  The players won't know how to act with the field not being way over 100 degrees.  Most openeing games it has been over 100 in the stands but today it is in the 80's and with a night game the weather is perfect for tailgating and the game.

Today at the stadium the various political campaigns will be passing out stickers.  Democrats are at a disadvantage here in Oklahoma and at the OU games.  In 2004, we had Coburn/Bush shirts which everyone wanted including the Texas fans who come up for the games.   This year Dr. Coburn is a shoe-in to send back to DC for six more years.

Have a great Labor Day weekend and enjoy the opening of college football across America -- actually started Thursday night but today is when it gets started in a big way all across America.

BOOMER SOONER!
