DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS for SALE

"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Gov Christie: The polls aren't rigged against Romney

ANOTHER UPDATE:  5:47 p.m.

Christie was also on Meet the Press talking about the debates which is going to send the Romney camp and their pundits through the roof:

Yet another surrogate of Mitt Romney’s seems to be suffering from message confusion or a personal agenda. The Romney campaign has been busy telling the press how unfair the debates are going to be because Barack Obama is Superman of the Spoken Word whereas poor Mitt Romney has only been practicing every single day for weeks now. They set Romney up as the victim of a President Obama’s unfair skills, hoping to lower the bar for a Romney handicap similar to the one given to Sarah Palin in 2008, when a wink passed for solid debate skills.
But today Chris Christie told NBC’s David Gregory that Romney was going to change the entire narrative of the campaign on Wednesday’s debate.
Click Here to watch a clip from Meet the Press
Christie promised, “On Wednesday night Mitt Romney is going to be standing on the same stage as the president of the United States. And I am telling you David, come Thursday morning the entire narrative of this race is going to change.”
Christie buttressed this thought with the anecdotal notation that “the general public that I speak to in New Jersey and elsewhere are just beginning to really tune in to this race,” therefor the swing states are not paying attention to the race either, in Christie’s mind.
(snip)
You heard it from Chris Christie’s mouth – this debate is going to turn the race around. So by Friday we should be seeing Romney soar in the swing states once he reintroduces himself to America for the 800th time. This time, this time, they’re gonna believe.
Christie stuck the knife in all of the way today, declaring, “I’m not going to sit here and complain about coverage of the campaign. As a candidate, if you do that, you’re losing.” But that is all that the Romney campaign has been doing, up to and including their hysteria over the debates, and Christie knows it.

Romney must be thinking that with friends like Christie he doesn't need any enemies while the rest of us on the outside looking in at the Romney campaign are chuckling.

UPDATE:  5:16 p.m.

More from the Christie interview on ABC -- this time on Christie agreeing with an Obama ad:
Chris Christie went on ABC’s This Week supposedly to defend Mitt Romney, but he ended up praising an Obama ad that claimed Romney will cut taxes on the rich.
Video:

Click to see the transcript from ABC’s This Week

Looks like more people think Christie may be jumping off the train before it totally wrecks:
I don’t think the Romney campaign will be happy with their top surrogate calling an Obama ad a “great ad,” and saying it looks nice and sounds nice. What Christie should have said was that this ad was the worst thing he has even seen in his life. He should have been outraged by it. Instead of defending Romney, he tried to advance his own agenda and stature within the Republican Party by calling Obama liar. Chris Christie was more interesting in advancing his own ambitions than helping Mitt Romney save his campaign. It was bizarre that Christie would lend credibility to the ad by praising it in any way, unless he had his own motives in mind.
(snip)
After his keynote speech at the Republican convention, it was pretty obvious that Chris Christie wants Romney to lose so that he can run in 2016. Christie has been spending time in Iowa laying the groundwork for 2016. The New Jersey governor wants to look like a good party man by supporting Romney, but his actions like barely mentioning Romney at the convention and not very subtly praising Obama’s anti-Romney ad tell a different tale.
Chris Christie is now going on television and making stuff up for Romney while praising his opponent’s advertising against him.
It is no secret that many in the Republican Party personally dislike Romney, so the question becomes is the Republican Party really this incompetent, or is GOP now out to sabotage their own nominee?
Republicans are abandoning ship in their own subtle or not so subtle ways, and the Mitt Romney is increasingly being left to fend for himself against Obama.

******
Seems the New Jersey Governor isn't buying into the Rove/Morris koolaid either.  Do believe that it is safe to assume if Chris Christie runs in 2016 that Karl Rove and Dick Morris will not be part of his campaign.  These comments say it all about the state of the Romney campaign and that Christie is not willing to go down with a sinking ship.
Chris Christie dismisses poll truthers: The polls aren’t rigged against RomneyBy David Edwards
Sunday, September 30, 2012 13:31 EDT
Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie insists that the many presidential polls showing President Barack Obama with an edge over GOP hopeful Mitt Romney aren’t rigged, no matter what so-called “poll truthers” like Karl Rove and Dick Morris say.

“I don’t buy that,” Christie told ABC host George Stephanopoulos on Sunday. “You look at every poll, you look at its methodology, you can say whether it’s a good or bad poll.”
“But do I think there’s a concerted effort to skew the polls against Gov. Romney? No, I don’t buy that,” he said.
Excerpt:  Read More at Raw Story
Christie just took on Morris and Rove after their comments this week.  Morris in a hot pink shirt guaranteed a Romney victory:

During a segment last week on Fox News, Morris had claimed that Romney was “in a very strong position” even though polls showed him down in all nine battleground states.
When I saw Morris' and then Rove's remarks replayed, all I could do is laugh at their thinking Americans are buying into their koolaid.  Looks like Gov Christie had the same reaction and wasn't afraid to come out and say it!  Very refreshing!

Will the Romney supporters like pundit Mark Levin start trashing Christie now like they did Bill Kristol?  Can just imagine the conservative talk media will be over the top at Christie's comments on polling as it is a 180 from their narrative that polls are rigged which Rush, Hannity, and other pundits including Fox News  have been touting.

Are Hard Right Republicans Fit to Lead the Country? This Republican Woman Says NO!

This collage of comments against Romney is good for a laugh to see how the GOP takes back their words in order to turn into pretzels to support Romney.  Simply amazing but then we are seeing it from some of the same Republicans who trashed Akin and now support him holding a fund raiser for Akin hosted by Senators DeMint, Graham, Coburn, and Inhofe.  Seems getting a Senate seat to flip from Democrat to GOP is more important then any integrity.  Akin has a war on women that is ongoing and Romney has a war on the 47% -- neither should be elected to any office.

If Republican Senators are willing to support someone like Aiken, what kind of an agenda would Republicans have if they took over the Senate, House and the White House?  Would it be a hard right agenda where abortion is outlawed and women would be getting backdoor abortions with no medical care?  What grinds me to no end is this group of white guys being the determining factor on women's health in their minds.  They don't know what women go through or the issues they are facing -- they just want to enforce their agenda on the rest of us and many women including Republican women are not buying their koolaid.

The latest to come out of the hard right wing of the GOP is that all the polling is wrong as too many Dems and leaning Dems are being counted which will depress the vote.  News to those pundits and GOP leadership, there are a lot of Republican women who will NOT vote for a white male Republican this time with their neanderthal thinking starting with Romney.  How many Republican women are going to vote for Scott Brown now when they don't even like Warren?  Would say the percentage is dropping with his rhetoric he can tell by looking who is an Indian and who is not.  What is in the water in the Republican side of the Senate to act like a bunch of jerks this year who are alienating women along with a lot of men with their hard right stance?

Bottom line is that women are a lot smarter than the white males of the GOP leadership want us to be.  A lot of us have quit swallowing their koolaid of the right and are starting to think for ourselves on who we are going to vote for on November 6th no matter the party.  If there is a women running for office on my ballot, she has my vote after what I have been witnessing.  I don't care the party after seeing the GOP support a man like Akin in MO who doesn't believe in equal pay for equal work.  Aiken also calls student loans a cancer, but when you have a candidate like Romney who says ask your parents for the money for college or to start a business, you know you have candidates who could care less about middle class or the poor.  Guess it is our fault for not being born with a silver spoon in our mouths.

The GOP stands to lose a lot of women over this election along with minorities and males who don't want to be associated with this type of thinking where women and minorities are supposed to be inferior to the intellect of the white male Republicans like Rush Limbaugh and others.  That is exactly how today's Republican Party is coming across to many in this Country.  The GOP attacks on benefits of our veterans and military, senior's social security and medicare, civil service pay and retirement, teachers, fire, and police along with wanting to destroy all unions seems to be the orchestrated agenda of the wealthy Republicans IMHO.  When the wealth donors say jump to Republican members of Congress, they seem to be asking "How high?" as they are doing everything in their power to keep tax cuts and loopholes for the wealthy.

This group of Republicans in leadership seem to have little empathy for people as a whole and buy into the 'every man for themselves' ignoring that we are all in this together as We the People.  My prediction for November 6th, 2012, election is that the GOP is going to lose big with their narrow mindedness and refusing to heed Jeb Bush's advice that we have to reach out to minorities -- bet he never figured they would be attacking women too!

You know it is bad when you are watching a political show of left leaners and they are praising George W Bush for his compassionate conservatism or listening to Nancy Pelosi say that GW was very nice and respectful when she worked with him.  Says a lot about the class of George W Bush who was trashed by the likes of Limbaugh and others on the right.   He had class which we are not seeing out of Republicans in leadership today including Romney/Ryan along with some Republican male candidates for Senate like Akin, Brown, Thompson, and others.  They really don't like running against women for Senate if their comments  debate are any indication.  Yet they want women to vote for them?

Republican Heather Wilson Runs for NM Senate

Interesting fact that money has been pulled from the Republican candidate by the NRSC as they didn't like the polling in NM.  So they are willing to concede this race?  Why?  The NRSC is supporting Cong Connie Mac (R-FL) who is way behind incumbent Bill Nelson but they don't want to give money to Heather Wilson who has a much closer race for an open seat.  Doesn't make a lot of sense.
Wilson is having to use her own campaign account to finance her ads because the National Republican Senatorial Committee has pulled $3 million originally allocated to Wilson's race.
At least Senator Cornyn who heads the NRSC has stated that the NRSC will not fund Todd Akin in Missouri which is a plus.  Akin IMHO is harming a lot of Senate races that would be closer with his out of touch with reality on women's issues.  Every Republican should have stayed clear of this race but they are now touting Akin with DeMint and Gingrich going into MO along with Huckabee.  Not one Republican on the national scene should be supporting Akin.  Do they really want him in the Senate and alienate the rest of the women of America?

Today Martin Heinrich (D) who is running for this Senate seat in New Mexico is pulling out to an 8-9 point lead when this race was thought to be closer earlier in the year.  Since the GOP Convention, his lead has stabilized along with all the green money pouring into the state to attack Wilson.

Will keep a watch on this race to see if Wilson's numbers tighten after the McCain/Graham visit but with a weak National ticket of Romney/Ryan there are no coattails and in fact it is hurting some Republican Senate candidates like Wilson.  Don't see a path to take the Senate by the GOP after the debacle Scott Brown is making of his race in MA.

The Republicans counted on raising large sums of money and using outside influence like Rove's Crossroads/Crossroads GPS to win the Senate and so far it is not working.  The powers at be should have thought long and hard before going hard right as they could cost the Senate.  Voters don't want to elect a hard right Republican for six years.  In the House it is only two years so they might take a chance but in the Senate?  No way and that is hurting GOP Senate candidates because the flip flopper has hurt the GOP brand along with the hard right Tea Party and social conservatives.  Voting for the most conservative in the primary is giving the GOP some bad candidates like Akin.  Like 2010, these bad candidates could cost the Senate for Republicans.

When are Republicans going to wake up and realize that the Country is center right not hard right and most Americans recoil at the comments coming out of some GOP candidates from the hard right in 2012.  Romney pandering to the hard right is not helping even a little and may be making it worse.

Hope this visit by Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Kelly Ayotte will make a difference and we can see a tightening in the race.  Heather Wilson is someone who will work across the aisle in the Senate which is exactly what we need to do for the American people but what social conservatives hate and will attack a Republican for working with any Democrat.
John McCain, Lindsey Graham stump for Heather Wilson's Senate campaign; Martin Heinrich fires back

Perhaps the most personal testimonial came from Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who said Wilson will buck her own political party if that is the right decision.

Graham served with Wilson in the U.S. House of Representatives. He called her a friend who puts country ahead of Republican politics.n.

Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire also appeared with Wilson at a news conference at USS Bullhead Memorial Park. The theme was decidedly military, though a bit irreverent.n.

McCain said Wilson was an exceptionally qualified candidate for the Senate except for the fact that she graduated from the Air Force Academy. "That wasn't bad for a Navy puke," Wilson joked with McCain, a graduate of Annapolis.

The visiting senators said Wilson, as a military veteran and former congresswoman, understands the best route to protect both the country and New Mexico's defense installations. McCain said he did not know Democratic Congressman Martin Heinrich, Wilson's opponent in the Senate race, but doubted that Heinrich had the understanding of military operations that she does.

Wilson, behind in the polls, said she would make careful, scalpel-like cuts, not engage in a meat-cutter approach that she accused Heinrich of advocating when he voted for a system that could enable across-the-board cuts next year. Heinrich had a tart response, saying he sized up the nation's economic problems the same way that McCain did. "I agree with Senator McCain that we must come to the table and prevent devastating cuts to our military and national labs,"
Heinrich said. "We've clearly seen that Tea Party Republicans are willing to take our economy hostage just to score political points, but I'm not willing to do that. Last year's debt ceiling deal was necessary to avoid a global financial crisis and, like Senator McCain, I voted reluctantly to ensure that did not happen." Heinrich also said he had fought for the state's labs and bases when Rep. Paul Ryan, now the Republican nominee for vice president, put forth a budget proposing the same kinds of cutting that Wilson says she opposes.

"I'm committed to standing with New Mexicans and reducing the deficit using a balanced approach that includes asking millionaires to pay their fair share, while ensuring our military has the resources they need to defend our nation," Heinrich said.

Wilson, 51, and Heinrich, 40, are competing to succeed Democratic Sen. Jeff Bingaman, who is retiring.

Ayotte, describing herself as the wife of a retired fighter pilot, said Wilson stands out as the candidate with a formidable record - training at an elite service academy, followed by military service and then a decade as a member of the House of Representatives. "Nobody can or will defend the bases any better than she will," Ayotte said.

Graham, perhaps the one who knows Wilson best, called her a serious, principled person with a clear idea of what is necessary. Wilson, he said, understands that the mission of the Senate is to "reform the Pentagon, not destroy it."

Pressed on particulars of where military cuts should be made, McCain said the blueprint is in hand. He said it is the Simpson-Bowles plan, a bipartisan proposal to reduce the national deficit.

Todd Akin, Mr. Legitimate Rape, is Back Being Fully Supported by the GOP Establishment

This is the first Senate race we are going to take a look at because frankly Missouri should have been a slam dunk for Republicans this time but the hard right with Tea Party support got their candidate Todd Akin the nomination.  Most women object to his characterization of rape -- it is the white Republican males who are defending him.  Don't see Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) or any of the New England Republican Women Senators (Snowe, Collins or Ayotte) or Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) defending Akin by jumping on board now that he is staying in the race.  The NRSC who had said they would not spend one penny in the race has changed their tune along with other Republican white males:
NRSC Executive Director had this to say:  "As with every Republican Senate candidate, we hope Todd Akin wins in November, and we will continue to monitor this race closely in the days ahead.”
Other prominent Republicans went even further. Former Republican presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are backing Akin. Gingrich even held a fundraiser for Akin earlier this week. Akin also received the backing of Sen. Jim DeMint’s (R-SC) Senate Conservatives Fund, an influential, well-funded group that has backed the GOP’s most extreme Senate candidates over the past two election cycles.
NRSC words were code for if it looks like Akin can win, we will put money in the race.  Why any woman would vote for Aiken is beyond me.  I was insulted the day he wanted to redefine rape and was elected as the MO GOP candidate -- didn't even think it was a possibility that this man could be the nominee.  Then all these Republicans went after him for his rape comments which also reflected what Ryan had said in the past about the definition of rape which made me do the research to discover the 3rd bill (HR 3) submitted after the GOP took over in January 2011 had to do with abortion, birth control, etc.  Those white guys sure didn't waste much time.  You may ask why I keep saying white guys, but it is because there are a lack of women Republican Senators and when Kay Bailey and Olympia Snowe retire at the end of this session, we will be down to Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH).  Even Lisa Murkowski had to win a write-in for Senate in AK after the Tea Party picked Joe Wilson another bad candidate.

Republicans in MO instead of electing Sarah Steelman in the primary who would have been a much better candidate and probably won against Claire McCaskill, chose to elect Akin by a slim margin.  IMHO Sarah Palin should have stayed out of that race but that is just me -- know too many Republicans in MO that don't like her. McCaskill actually pulled a fast one on the GOP in MO by running an ad against Akin which made some Republicans fall for it and say if she didn't want to run against Akin, then I am voting for him.  The fact is that Akin was an easier candidate to beat with his hard right positions on social issues than Steelman.  IMHO Steelman would be ahead in the race instead of Akin being behind.

If the GOP thinks pouring money into the race is going to affect the votes of most women they don't have a clue about how mad Akin's comments made all women America to think that he considered himself to be so intelligent about rape that he could say if a woman willed herself not to get pregnant during a rape, she wouldn't.  What kind of neanderthal thinking is that?  That man does not belong in the Senate.  Because of the white males of the GOP supporting Akin, we stand to lose other races where women are running because women across this Country don't want the GOP in charge of the Senate if they are willing to support someone like Akin for the Senate.  You would have Akin in the Senate and Ryan in the House both pushing the definition of rape and personhood.  No Thanks!
Legitimate Rape Is Back
By ThinkProgress War Room on Sep 26, 2012 at 5:28 pm
Republicans Signal New Support for Disgraced Candidate
When Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) made his infamous observation that “legitimate rape” rarely produces pregnancy because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” his fellow Republicans couldn’t run away fast enough. One after another they denounced Akin — despite the fact that many of them shared his sentiments on the issue if not his extremely poor choice of words. In fact, Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan even teamed up with Akin and other House Republicans in an ill-fated effort to redefine rape. Ryan also worked with Akin on a “personhood” measure that would outlaw abortion in all circumstances and ban common forms of birth control and in vitro fertilization.
The most immediate impact of the Republican effort to distance themselves from Akin (and to try to force him to quit the race) came in the form of declarations from GOP outside spending groups that they would abandon Akin’s campaign and pull their money out of Missouri. For the most part, these groups have kept their word and Sen. Claire McCaskill has surged ahead in the polls.
Now things have changed.
Yesterday was the last day that Akin could pull out of the race and, as promised, he did not do so. So with their chances of taking the Senate looking more and more unlikely by the day, it appears Republicans don’t think Akin and his outrageously offensive comments are so bad after all.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee, the official campaign arm of Senate Republicans, opened the door to getting back into the race on Akin’s behalf:
“There is no question that for Missourians who believe we need to stop the reckless Washington spending, rein-in the role of government in people’s lives, and finally focus on growing jobs in this country, that Todd Akin is a far more preferable candidate than liberal Sen. Claire McCaskill,” NRSC executive director Rob Jesmer said. “As with every Republican Senate candidate, we hope Todd Akin wins in November, and we will continue to monitor this race closely in the days ahead.”
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), who had earlier called on Akin to quit the race, also voiced his support for Akin:
Congressman Akin and I don’t agree on everything, but he and I agree the Senate majority must change. From Governor Romney to the county courthouse, I’ll be working for the Republican ticket in Missouri, and that includes Todd Akin.
(snip)
BOTTOM LINE: The GOP’s apparent re-embrace of Todd Akin tells us what we knew all along: Republicans didn’t really object to Akin’s comments about “legitimate rape,” they just found them to be politically inconvenient. Despite their initial attempt to distance themselves from Akin, it appears that Republicans are going to have to take responsibility for his outrageous comments about women and their bodies.
A lot of the attacks on Claire McCaskill by Republicans have not made much sense but found this gem about her career in the Senate and may explain why Republicans donors don't want her back especially the ones doing Government contracting with the Defense Department:
In November 2006, Claire became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Missouri, vowing to bring Harry Truman's no-nonsense style of accountability back to Washington, D.C. It only seemed fitting that her place in the Senate chamber is a desk shared by none other than Sen. Truman himself. She was named as one of the select senators to sit on the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, formerly known as the Truman Committee. In fact, one of Claire’s first major bills to pass in the Senate established a modern day Truman Committee called the Wartime Contracting Commission, charged with investigating wasteful, fraudulent and abusive contracts in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In addition to working to establish a committee to examine wartime contracting, in 2009 Claire was named chairman of a new subcommittee that investigates contracting abuses throughout the federal government. The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight strives to root out government waste by focusing on contracts and the means by which the federal government provides accountability to those contracts.
Claire currently sits on four Senate Committees, including Armed Services, Commerce, HSGAC and Aging. From those committees, she’s taken on: accountability and transparency, earmark reform, increased independence for Inspectors General (IG) that act as federal auditors, credit card regulations, security improvements to foreign repair stations that service our domestic aircraft, reforms to the reverse mortgage industry, consumer protections, and full benefits and resources for our brave veterans and wounded active service members.
McCaskill was the State Auditor of MO before she took on the sitting Democrat Governor and the Democrat establishment to win the primary in 2006 and defeat the Republican Senator Jim Talent (now works for Romney) in the general election in a close race.  You want someone who will handle fraud, waste, and abuse, elect a State Auditor.  I just read where Claire McCaskill stands on Issues and I am having a hard time understanding why the Republicans are calling her a liberal.

Here are a few issues with her stance:

  • Immigration

With more than 12 million illegal immigrants already residing within the U.S. and an additional 500,000 crossing our borders each year, it's clear our current immigration system is broken and the status quo is unacceptable. America is a nation founded by immigrants, but it's also a nation founded upon the rule of law, and Claire believes it is imperative we respect both of these traditions.

  • National Security and the Military

As a member of both the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee (HSGAC), Claire believes in a cohesive and thoughtful approach to the security of our nation and supporting the mission of our men and women in uniform. Now more than ever, Claire believes American leadership in the world is critical to helping ensure peace, democracy and human rights. This is particularly true in the face of complex challenges in fighting terrorism and transnational threats, ensuring success in Iraq and Afghanistan and crafting a strong, forward-leaning foreign policy.
Learn More
  • Veterans

As the daughter of a World War II veteran, Claire believes America has a moral responsibility to keep its promises to those who have sacrificed to protect our country. While much remains to be done to ensure that all those who have served receive the benefits and care they have earned, since arriving in Washington, D.C. Claire has championed a number of measures to improve quality of life for America's military heroes.
Is the hate of Claire McCaskill by some Republicans because she is not a social conservative and works across the aisle for her State?  Does her strong commitment against fraud, waste, and abuse of government contracting have the GOP in an uproar against McCaskill in order to support their big donors?  If the GOP will support a man who they wanted out of the race earlier for his stance on the definition of rape and the fact that a woman cannot become pregnant from rape if she wills she will not get pregnant, it shows Republicansw will do and say anything to be in charge of the Senate.

Claire McCaskill deserves to be reelected to the US Senate from MO to carry on her work with fraud, waste, and abuse while being willing to work across the aisle.  We need more women in the Senate not fewer IMHO!

NFL Labor Dispute with Officials -- Deal still not imminent according to Peter King, SI

UPDATE:  9:49 cdt, Sep 27:

Strike was settled last night!

Regular officials will be back on the field starting tonight.  They will be a welcome sight after some of the calls that have been made.  A few of the officiating groups seem to do pretty good, but then others were lackluster and didn't seem to understand the rules.  In several weeks fans will be complaining about the regular officials who are back -- that is the nature of the game!

Described as "a tentative contract agreement" by The Associated Press, the new 8-year deal must still be ratified by the union members on Friday. According to ProFootballTalk, the officials will vote on the deal in Dallas, where they will also pick up equipment and receive complete Week 4 assignments.
With the referee lockout having come to an end, NFL teams and fans have just one question: How soon can these guys be ready to go? According to Albert Breer and Jeff Darlington of NFL.com, the officials are ready to work immediately.
NBC officiating consultant Jim Daopoulos tweeted that experienced officials would likely be staffing "Thursday Night Football," less than 24 hours after Aiello announced the agreement. Adam Schefter of ESPN also reported that union refs would be in action on Thursday.

******

Even the anti union Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, wants the union to win this one against management since his favorite team the Green Bay Packers lost the game on what many football fans and pundits think was a bad call.  It really is time for the NFL to settle with their officials before another game is tainted by replacement officials.  Have to admit at times, I have wondered if the Big 12 officials are officiating  but unfortunately, they are still doing our games.

Time for the owners of the NFL to get their act together and settle this dispute for the good of the game.  ESPN is reporting a deal is imminent but Peter King of SI saying it is not imminent.  Time will tell if they can get it done or the stubborn owners have another weekend of replacement officials.
From Peter King, Sports Illustrated, Sep 26, 2012:
Deal still not imminent, but Hochuli has refs ready when time comes
Ed Hochuli is perhaps the most famous of the National Football League's 121 regular officials, and if a new contract with the locked-out officials gets done within the next 24 hours, American football fans will owe him a debt of thanks -- because the prep work of Hochuli will be a key for the real refs to hit the ground running, starting with Sunday's 13 NFL games.
A deal, however, is not imminent, according to one official who got an email from NFL Referees Association negotiator Scott Green early this afternoon. "He said we're making progress but not close to a deal right now,'' the official said.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported earlier today that the two sides were on the verge of an agreement that would end the stalemate that has put ill-suited replacement officials on the field for the first three weeks of the season. One league source said shortly after noon today that it was doubtful the pension part of the labor deal had been finalized, and he hadn't heard that a deal was imminent. But with a compensation specialist on hand Tuesday and today for the talks -- a usual precursor to a deal, another league source said -- the biggest question remaining seemed to be: Could a deal be ratified in time for the regular officials to ride in on their white horse and work 13 of the 14 games this weekend, excluding Thursday's game?
The answer is yes -- if a deal gets done by late Thursday. Here's how, said one officiating source with knowledge of the NFL Referees Association's plan:
• The officials must meet to ratify any proposal accepted by the NFLRA's board of directors, which includes referees Scott Green and Jeff Triplette. If a deal gets done midday Thursday, the officials would meet in Dallas on Friday and vote on the proposal. "They want to go back to work pretty bad,'' said the officiating source. "If they go to Dallas, they'd be voting for the deal."
• The officials could then fly to their respective games Saturday morning and have their regularly scheduled crew meetings, complete with game tape study, Saturday afternoon.
• The league likely would not demand they go through any preseason training, because the NFL is so anxious for the nightmare of the replacements to be over.
The NFL will have Hochuli to thank for the training sessions the NFL has not been able to run because he has run some of his own.
Every Tuesday night, the veteran official with the Popeye arms has been holding rules-related conference calls with all officials. Average attendance on the calls, I'm told, is between 90 and 110 per week. Hochuli, the officiating sources says, gives all officials a test each week, similar to one they might get from the NFL during a regular week of preparations, and then goes over the results on the phone with the officials.
"That's one of the reasons why the officials will be up to date and ready to go,'' the officiating source said. "Ed grabbed the bull by the horns and made sure that whenever this thing ended, the regular officials would be ready to go back to work immediately.''
As for terms of the new deal, it's likely the NFL will get some but not all of what it wanted with a taxi squad of developmental officials. One source said that was accomplished by guaranteeing the officials the same pool of money they would get even if some of them are replaced during the season for performance or health reasons.

Ralph Reed's Conservative Group Claims Obama Has ‘Communist Beliefs,’ Compares His Policies To Hitler’s

Every time I think that Republicans cannot stoop any lower, along comes Ralph Reed and his 'survey' which should be roundly condemned but he is a 'friend' of Mitt so most Republicans are sticking their heads in the sand once again.

Every day the hard right is making it much harder for those of us center right to remain Republicans.  Count this as another one of those check marks.  Read this survey and ask yourself how any Christian could possibly put out this trash but this is Ralph Reed who is tied to the Abramoff scandal.

Usually not at a loss for words but trying to find the words that register my utter disgust toward Ralph Red and his group are hard to find.
Conservative Group Claims Obama Has ‘Communist Beliefs,’ Compares His Policies To Hitler’s
By Annie-Rose Strasser posted from ThinkProgress Election on Sep 25, 2012 at 9:09 am

Romney and Reed
A conservative religious group is sending its members a ‘survey’ that compares President Obama’s policies to those of Nazi Germany, and asserts that the President has “communist beliefs.”
The mailer, a product of the Faith and Freedom coalition, is titled the “Voter Registration Confirmation Survey.” But its questions have little to do with registering to vote. Rather, the survey asks a host of leading inquries into how its members view the President’s record.
The options prompt the most extreme answers — with very few moderate or supportive possibilities:
As Mother Jones, who obtained the survey, points out, the Faith and Freedom coalition and particularly its head Ralph Reed are leading the effort to turn out Evangelical voters for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. The group plans to spend over $10 million for this purpose.
Romney has praised Reed for his turnout efforts, saying, “Ralph Reed is doing a great job here with the Faith & Freedom Coalition. This is going to make a big impact across America and I appreciate the work you are doing here.” The Presidential candidate even gave Reed the ultimate honor of sharing a hotel with him during the convention.
You can view the full survey here.

Open Letter to the Republican National Committee following a RNC Email

What is baffling to a lot of us are the lies that the RNC Chair and the Romney campaign tell without flinching even when confronted with Fact Check. Do you think all Republicans are stupid and anti-American who don't support Romney because that is how this email (below) comes across to those of us with brains who can think and research? Cannot believe you are still using the welfare claim against Obama that has been debunked time and time again by Fact Check.  Now believe the RNC is serious that fact checking doesn't matter just like it is ignored by the candidates Romney/Ryan.  Truth and integrity has taken a real hit this time.

FYI will not be told what to think by the conservative pundits who are some of the biggest spinners/outright liars in this election. Their over the top rhetoric may play well with the hard right but it does not play with center right Republicans who have had it starting in the primaries where rules were different for say FL (winner take all) and OK (proportion) when we both voted before 1 April. You may think that people didn't notice but making sure the wealthy Romney won the primary could be the downfall of the Republican Party that has been center-right for years.  Romney is not a likeable person and comes across as arrogant even in Town Halls and interviews. Went to a Town Hall in 2008 and said NEVER again.  Do not like arrogant people and that is exactly how Romney comes across when not trying to pander.

In the RNC email today, it says if you support Obama, you have been bamboozled and you are not a cogent American citizen?  HUH?  Now those of us Republicans who don't swallow the Romney koolaid are too stupid to know what we are doing?  Unlike the author of this article, many of us have done the research to find the facts on Obama which are counter to what the RNC and the Romney camp wants us to think.  Obama is much more centrist then he is given credit for and has grown in the job but that goes against the Romney GOP narrative.
Bamboozled by Obama“How can any cogent American citizen possibly even consider voting for Barack Obama now? That’s what lots of  conservatives and moderates are asking each other, again and again. It’s completely baffling, to those who grew up with any sort of sense of what America means and what the American character traditionally has been, that anybody can look at the man’s record and want more of the same.” (Quinn Hillyer, “Obama’s Dangerous and Disastrous Presidency: Name a Single Thing That Has Improved Under His Rule,” Spectator, 9/19/2012)
Articles and comments like this sent out by the RNC are making some of us rethink how we are going to vote for down ticket races now.  I don't take kindly to those remarks I have highlighted in red.  I have received emails from the Obama campaign and listened to the head of the DNC -- they are not calling people who don't support them un-American which this article does to us by saying we don't have a sense of what America means.  I am sick and tired the use of words that basically say Obama is not an American and that is exactly what I take out of this paragraph along with his supporters not understanding America.  Romney's Dad was born in Mexico as he was the son of a man who had five wives who left Utah before it became a state to move to Mexico with other polygamist.  Yet Romney and Republicans attack Obama?

This longtime Republican is voting for Obama because I know where he stands -- throw a dart to see where Romney stands from windows that he wants to open on airplanes to no insurance - use the ER to the 47% to the 100% to dissing most of us who would normally vote Republican. Saying he wants to grow the military when I have been around it most of my adult life is ludicrous. There are all kinds of cuts that can be made but then it would affect his wealthy donor base.

RNC is playing with fire with taking the center right foregranted while playing to the hard right every step of the way. Many of us are questioning why we are Republican today because we are not hard right and find the attack on women's health issues disgusting by white Republican males. Same thing for voter suppression which is being pushed by Republicans. Anyone who has been around elections knows the biggest voter fraud comes from absentee ballots not in person voting but that didn't stop Republicans from making stupid remarks like the leader in the PA House that the new law just got Romney PA. Disgusting and despicable.

Then there is the Romney stacking of the audience first at the NAACP and then Univision. It is obvious that Romney and the RNC don't play by rules but expect everyone else to follow them. His remarks on the Libyan consulate attack which left four Americans dead was without precedence in all the years of Presidential politics but once again Romney does not follow precedent or rules. No candidate attacks a sitting President during a crises like we saw Romney and then to be applauded by the conservative media made me sick I was even a Republican.

Went into this election supporting all Republicans except Romney.  After learning of the meeting the night of the Inauguration to plan to make Obama a one-term President by obstructing his agenda and refusing to work with the President on bills that could help our employment and economy leaves me cold.  When the GOP Senate stopped the veterans bill this month, it leaves me hoping that the GOP does not take the Senate and the House is very close in numbers so the two sides have to work together and stop the GOP obstruction we have been seeing from the right led by the Tea Party in the House and Senate. The GOP owes that to the American people or the RNC is going to be heading a Party of lot less people including this one.

If the Republican Party refuses to move back to center right and lose all the social issues like definition of rape and personhood,  then I am gone after being a loyal Republican my whole life going back to being a teenager passing our info for Barry Goldwater in Ohio. I cannot remain in a Party where the extremists run the Party which we are seeing from the Tea Party and Koch Brothers/Rove who use them today.

There is a sign in my yard that reads "Another Republican for Paula Roberts" because the GOP is trying to re-elect a conscientious objector again to the OK House. I will never cast my vote for someone who used CO status so he could continue his college education and not be deployed. Bottom line is the taxpayers paid for his education through the Guard but he did not fulfill his commitment. Yet we are expected as Republicans to support him -- not happening.

No thanks to Romney -- wouldn't vote for him in 2008 and definitely will not vote for the liar in 2012.  This Republican joined Republicans for Obama for a reason -- they are common sense Republicans who believe the Party has gone way too far to the hard right and so do I!

Sharon
Norman, OK

P.S. Below is the RNC version of the truth with my comments in red disagreeing with them.  Cannot believe they are still bringing up the welfare deal or the redistribution by Obama both of which have been debunked over and over again.  All this email proves is that the RNC lost its integrity and honesty when they elected Priebus over Steele.  I thought the RNC was really bad in 2000 but this one is much worse with the GOP Platform, the new Rules, their attacks on long time Republicans and putting the hard right Tea Party front and center as the voice of the GOP.

Next time I write and ask to be taken off a distribution list maybe they will listen!

Volume 84 -- September 25, 2012

As we work together to defeat Barack Obama and elect Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and Republican candidates up and down the ticket in November, Victory Insider continues to keep you informed about Campaign 2012 and our Party’s fight for commonsense conservative policies in Washington. Thank you again for all you do for the RNC!

2012 ELECTION COUNTDOWN (filled with LIES):

Election Day: 42 Days
In this week’s installment:
A Clear Choice

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus makes it perfectly clear -- when voters go to the polls in November, they’ll be voting for either Barack Obama’s vision of Big Government and wealth redistribution (Note: RNC and Romney left off the next sentence of what Obama said as a State Senator which changed the meaning - imagine that!  Four more Pinocchios) or Mitt Romney’s commitment to prosperity and freedom for America. (Reince Priebus, “Priebus Opinion: It’s ‘Redistribution’ or American Dream,” Politico, 9/20/2012)

GOP Ground Game Update
RNC Political Director Rick Wiley gives the inside scoop on our Party’s historic effort to maximize the vote for Mitt Romney and GOP candidates up and down the ticket nationwide. The final stretch of Campaign 2012 is here, and the RNC is ready to support Republican victories across America. (Rick Wiley, “GOP Blog: Ground Game Update,” GOP.com, 9/24/12)  (Note:  They are still begging for volunteers in my state and others from people I have talked with -- there is no excitement with Romney as the candidate that any of us can see -- no Romney signs yet I see Obama signs at homes I delivered McCain/Palin the last time)

Telling It Straight
“The headlines this weekend were all about the boos Paul Ryan elicited on Friday when he addressed the AARP, the self-styled seniors’ lobby. The herd of independent media minds missed the real story, which is that the Republican Vice Presidential nominee went into the heart of the entitlement culture, told some hard truths, and even won applause for doing so.” (Editorial, “Ryan at the AARP: The Real Story is That He Didn’t Trim His Ideas and Still Won Applause,” Wall Street Journal, 9/23/2012) (Note:  WSJ is owned by Murdoch and anyone with a brain knows that they have been on the Romney bandwagon for sometime.  The people interviewed from AARP randomly by local press tell a different story then the WSJ -- they applauded as he entered and left the stage)

Giving Back
“Mitt Romney has, in the past two years, paid almost $5 million in taxes while giving away $7 million. And, as he said, he has paid the taxes he was supposed to pay according to the laws of the United States, which is all that is required -- legally, morally and practically -- of anyone… The release of these tax records leaves no doubt about one thing: Mitt Romney is an extraordinarily, remarkably, astonishingly generous man. A good man. Maybe even a great man.” (John Podhoretz, Romney the Giver: The Big News From Tax Returns,” New York Post, 9/21/2012)  (Note:  This made me want to throw up -- his donations are to the Mormon Church who is building commercial enterprises like malls.  The very fact it might help fund the Mormons who come to my door who treat me like I am not a Christian because I am not Mormon does not endear Romney to me at all.  Not to mention the donations come off the income tax which seems to be forgotten as he gave more to charity then paid in taxes and then there is the $77,000 expense for the dressage horse  -- Isn't the NY Post also owned by Murdoch?)
Inside Romney HQ

Townhall’s Guy Benson gets an inside look at the Romney campaign headquarters in Boston and hears first-hand how Governor Romney’s team is working to defeat Barack Obama in November. (Guy Benson, “Inside Team Romney’s Plan to Win,” Townhall, 9/18/2012)   (Note:  The wheels are coming off the bus with the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing and they are trying to sell this?)

Bamboozled by Obama
“How can any cogent American citizen possibly even consider voting for Barack Obama now? That’s what lots of conservatives and moderates are asking each other, again and again. It’s completely baffling, to those who grew up with any sort of sense of what America means and what the American character traditionally has been, that anybody can look at the man’s record and want more of the same.” (Quinn Hillyer, “Obama’s Dangerous and Disastrous Presidency: Name a Single Thing That Has Improved Under His Rule,” Spectator, 9/19/2012) (Note:  Covered that above)

Stupid Democrat Tricks
While Barack Obama is busy appearing on late night comedy shows, the RNC Research team has been compiling the “Top Ten” list that everyone needs to hear. (RNC Research, “Obama’s Top Ten Failed Policies: The Top Ten They Won’t Show at Obama’s Appearance on Letterman,” GOP.com, 9/18/2012)  (Note:  Bet the Romney list is even longer -- RNC Research used to be really good but noticed it had fallen off considerably since 2004 when they were spot on with facts.  Half of what you see today is spin and any fact checker can tear them apart)

Killing Coal Jobs
“'In West Virginia, fellow Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito said her constituents want to stay in their home state and raise their families, ‘but the president’s extreme policies are cripplingly entire towns and making it harder for workers to find jobs.’” (Vicki Smith, "Alpha closing 8 mines, cutting 1,200 jobs in all,” Associated Press, 9/18/2012)   (Note:  Where is the mention of the Coal Miners who had to take the day off with no pay who were mandated to attend and stand behind Romney?  Or how about a Romney ad using coal miners without their permission?  Natural Gas is much cleaner IMHO and doesn't contribute to the pollution like coal)

ObamaCare Cost Explosion

“Current federal regulations plus those coming under Obamacare will cost American taxpayers and businesses $1.8 trillion annually, more than twenty times the $88 billion the administration estimates, according to a new roundup provided to Secrets from the libertarian Competitive Enterprise Institute." (Paul Bedard, “Washington Secrets:$1.8 Trillion Shock: Obama Regs Cost 20-times Estimate,” Washington Examiner, 9/20/2012)  (Washington Examiner and Facts don't like each other.  (Note:  (Note:  Right-wing media are falsely claiming that a recent report by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) shows that the cost of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has doubled since CBO's estimate in 2010. In fact, CBO's analysis actually showed that the insurance coverage provisions of the health care law will cost less than originally estimated.)

“By His Own Admission”
After President Obama admitted that he can’t change Washington -- even though that was the central promise of his campaign four years ago, the RNC released this new video. Maybe he’s gotten too cozy with the lobbyists he hired in the White House or wasted too many taxpayer dollars on failed green energy companies like Solyndra? (Note:  At least Obama admits his is wrong -- Mitt Romney and looks like Priebus are members of the 'no apologies' crowd)

Great Expectations?
“One of the chief reasons the media is so mistaken in their zeal to proclaim Obama the election winner is that most of the polls they’re basing their predictions on are wildly inflating Democrat turnout. The overwhelming majority of media polls are assuming an electorate that is at least as Democrat as the one in 2008, with many polls assuming a higher Democrat turnout. This is just daft. The latest CBS poll of 3 swing states is the most recent to show that GOP has a huge turnout advantage over Democrats.” (Mike Flynn, “CBS Poll: GOP Has Huge Voter Turnout Edge Over Dems,” Breitbart, 9/19/2012)  (Note:  Is the RNC counting on voter suppression to keep the Dem vote totals lower?  Have they not taken a look at the breakout of GOP/Indy/DNC?  Looks like they are also using Rasmussen numbers which are notorious for oversampling Republicans as he is part of the Rove/Ailes group.  One pollster is using 39% Dems; 32% GOP and 29% Indy -- you cannot use 2010 because that was a turnout anomaly -- how much absentee ballot fraud was there in that election that has caused Republicans to want to purge voting rolls so much?)

Dependency Agenda
“A new report from the Congressional Research Service obtained by the Washington Examiner suggests that the administration’s suspension of a separate welfare work requirement has already helped explode the number of able-bodied Americans on food stamps." (Phillip Klein, “CRS Report: Number of Able-bodied Adults on Food Stamps Doubled After Obama Suspended Work Requirement,” Washington Examiner, 9/19/2012) (NOTE:  THIS IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE THAT HAS BEEN FACT CHECKED AND GIVEN FOUR PINOCCHIOS!  Food stamps went up because people cannot find jobs because Republicans are obstructing bills that would add jobs.)

Redistributing Your Wealth
Check out the RNC’s new web videos, “Redistribution” and “Redistribution II” -- shedding light on President Obama’s belief that redistributing wealth creates prosperity. If this were true, unemployment would be below 8%, we wouldn’t have exploding deficits, or have a record number of people in poverty. The fact is redistribution has not worked, and America needs Governor Romney who embraces free enterprise to get Americans back to work. (Note:  This is another lie which has been proven to be false by Fact Checkers)

“Middle East Madness”
Faced with the ferocious attacks leveled at Americans in the Middle East by extremists who view Barack Obama and his weak foreign policy of apology and appeasement with disdain, the Obama Administration’s excuses and denial only make things worse. (Victor Davis Hanson, “Middle East Madness, National Review, 9/20/2012) (Note:  The Mouthpiece website for the RNC/Romney gets wrong again -- there were no Obama apologies but Romney coming out during the crises to score political points shows he has no integrity and no ethics and refused to take back his comments the next day that Obama was apologizing.  Absolutely disgusting performance out of Romney and Republicans)

Headline News (1/14/2013)

Arrogance of NRA is simply stunning - for an organization who used to be about gun safety now the bottom line for gun/ammo manufacturers trumps all as the NRA lobbies for them.

According to Think Progress,
“NRA: Practice Range” is billed as a “network of news, laws, facts, knowledge, safety tips, educational materials and online resource” for the organization. The National Rifle Association released a new app on Sunday that includes a gun range equipped with coffin-shaped targets, and the option for players to simulate using a military-grade sniper rifle.

The app includes what it calls “9 true to life firearms,” and allows players to download an MK-11 sniper rifle setting for 99 cents. The rifle can shoot 750 rounds per minute.

Dems/GOP Fighting -- Will they Finally Work Together for the Country? Will replace this image when they do. (11/07/2012)

Quotes

"We will be told that the causes of such violence are complex, and that is true. No single law, no set of laws can eliminate evil from the world or prevent every senseless act of violence in our society, but that can’t be an excuse for inaction. Surely we can do better than this." President Barack Obama, Newtown, CT, 12/16/2012

"I don't think that the way to correct a spin from the left is to try to impart a spin from the right.... [A]n information flow distorted from the right would be just as much a disservice as distortion from the left. What we really should be after... is accurate information. And I don't see what any conservative or anybody else for that matter has to fear from accurate information." M. Stanton Evans

Former Senator Alan Simpson (R-WY)

“For heaven’s sake, you have Grover Norquist wandering the earth in his white robes saying that if you raise taxes one penny, he’ll defeat you,” he told CNN back in May. “He can’t murder you. He can’t burn your house. The only thing he can do to you, as an elected official, is defeat you for reelection. And if that means more to you than your country when we need patriots to come out in a situation when we’re in extremity, you shouldn’t even be in Congress.”

"We are are an American family and we rise or fall together as one nation.

Barack Obama, 11/06/12

John Stuart Mill was a 19th century political philosopher:

"I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it." John Stuart Mill.
