New crime in Hope and Change Era? Failure to Insure

What? Now if you don't want to pay for health insurance you will be fined and could spend time in jail? What has happened to America? So this is what "Hope" and "Change" is all about -- no thanks! We need a return to capitalism away from a socialism to communism form of Government that the liberals are trying to implement. What next, are they going to arrest us for speaking our minds on the healthcare bills disguised as socialized medicine by the liberal Democrats? The liberal Dems are already calling us racist so what is next?

Senator John Ensign (R-NV) wanted to get an answer on the implications of the individual mandate in the ObamaCare bill floated by Max Baucus (D-MT) during the markup session. Sessions asked Thomas Barthold, chief of staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, what would happen if a taxpayer refused to buy health insurance and then refused to pay the subsequent fine, which could run to $1900 for an individual. Barthold replied that one shouldn’t do the crime if one doesn’t want to do the time:

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”
