"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Afghanistan -- Is it Obama's Vietnam?

Today we are focusing on Afghanistan. Some of us who lived during the Vietnam War and lost friends are getting a sick feeling about what we see happening in the Obama Administration on Afghanistan. The Commander in Afghanistan has asked for more troops, but the Obama White House is doing nothing. In fact, in August, they asked the Commander to wait to send in his request for more troops. Ask yourself why?

This article from the Washington Times shows what dangerous times we are in right now with an inexperienced person running the Country who thought the War on Terror was bad and even changed the name to Overseas Contingency Operation, March 25, 2009. The Obama Administration tried to blame OMB for the name change, BUT the OMB said it wasn't them.

Obama goes wobbly on Afghanistan: The White House leans toward cutting and running
The Washington Times
September 22, 2009 Editorial

It astonishes us how quickly Afghanistan is moving from being a "war of necessity" to "too tough to do." President Obama's comments over the weekend gave the clearest signal yet that his administration is seeking an exit strategy from a conflict he described in August as "not only a war worth fighting" but "fundamental to the defense of our people." Commitment to that fundamental defense is eroding.

Last night after reading this article, we decided to put a timeline together of events starting with the firing of the previous Commander in Afghanistan which made this Obama's War. Why would a man who ran for President who wanted to invade Pakistan now hint he wants to cut and run? Are we going continue to tell our military they have to fight a war with one hand tied behind their back and are not going to be given the necessary resources to win? What is Obama going to say to the family and friends of soliders who lost their lives or were injured in Afghanistan?

Read the timeline and ask yourself what happened to the man who ran on invading Pakistan to wipe out the Terrorist threat:

  • 25 Mar 2009 -- changed name from War on Terror to Overseas Contingency Operation
  • 10 Apr 2009 -- bowed to Saudi King
  • May 11, 2009 -- Gates picks McChrystal new Commander in Afghanistan
  • 4 June 2009 -- Cairo Speech
  • 4 July 2009 -- first article found on changing the rules of engagement (General McChrystal explained it to BBC news that they are now advising troops to break off from firefights with the Taliban, "If you are in a situation where you are under fire from the enemy... if there is any chance of creating civilian casualties or if you don't know whether you will create civilian casualties, if you can withdraw from that situation without firing, then you must do so”)
  • 6 Jul 2009 -- first visit to Russia
  • 7-9 Jul 2009 -- dozens killed by drones -- cannot find a later attack by US drones into Pakistan
  • 13 Aug 2009 -- military asked for more troops (told not to submit)
  • 17 Aug 2009 — visited Ghana — discovered this about Ghana:
According to official statistics, Muslims make up 16 percent of Ghana’s 22-million population. But the head of the Accra Higher Institute for Islamic Research, Sheikh Abdul-Qader Nibari, says the actual number is around 35 percent. Ghana is a secular state where all religions are treated equally. Christianity is the main religion and there are also a variety of pagan creeds. Muslims in Ghana occupy high-ranking posts, such as the Vice President Ali Mohamed and Minister of Labor Mustafa Ali, as well as a large number of officers in the Ghanaian police and army.
  • 17 Sep 2009 -- Obama cancels missile shield for Poland and Czech Republic
  • 21 Sep 2009 -- McChrystal to resign if not given resources for Afghanistan, By Bill Roggio: Within 24 hours of the leak of the Afghanistan assessment to The Washington Post, General Stanley McChrystal's team fired its second shot across the bow of the Obama administration. According to McClatchy, military officers close to General McChrystal said he is prepared to resign if he isn't given sufficient resources (read "troops") to implement a change of direction in Afghanistan: See Threat Matrix for more details
Now we know the request for more troops has been submitted to the White House and Obama is waffling. Is he really going to cut and run? Is the real reason because of his visits in the Muslim world and being convinced that he Al Qaeda or Taliban are not terrorists and just disgruntled Isamist who blame the US for everything that goes wrong? Obama has been on an apology tour since he took office to our enemies and continues to diss our friends. Not sure that is any other conclusion that you can reach.

Is this the result of electing a Democrat based on change that doesn't have the backbone to fight a War on Terror? Demcorats wanted a PC name but the fact remains our soldiers are getting killed by terrorist and once again an Adminstration just like LBJ on Vietnam will not give our Commander on the ground the resources necessary to win. Shame on Obama for delaying the request from the Commander for additional troops although we believe General McChyrstal should have also requested that the Rules of Engagement be changed back to allow our military to go on the offensive wherever they need to go to protect our troops.

Maybe Americans better think twice before electing another Democrat as President because our military deserves better. They continually criticized Pres Bush on Iraq for the last several years saying Afghanistan was the real WAR we needed to win and now that they have Obama in office, they are showing their yellow spines. But what can we expect from some of the same people like Kerry who demonstrated against the Vietnam War and threw someone else's medals over the White House fence? He lied about atrocities, lied he was in Cambodia at Christmas, and yet he was the Democrat nominee in 2004.

The far left, anti-war, anti-military has taken over the leadership of the Democrat Party, the White House, and Congress. What is next for the Blue Dog Democrats? Are they going to support this cut and run from Afghanistan that is looming on the horizon?

Pray for our troops on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq as they fight the War on Terror with their hand tied behind their backs thanks to this Administration.

UPDATE: Afghanistan: “A Political Strategy, Not A Serious Foreign Policy” and "General McChrystal Sides with Afghans over US Troops" are two articles worth reading on Afghanistan and how it is affecting our military who are on the ground in Afghanistan.
