"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Welcome Back for the 2010 Election Cycle and More News of Democrats for Sale

As we start 2010 which is a Congressional Election year, we wanted to highlight another boondoggle of Congress -- Division 1 Football. After having a lot of fun at one of the lower tier bowl games, we think that Congress should butt out of college football. Life is not always fair and time the Democrat members of Congress stayed out of college sports with their political correctness.

We had a great time at the Brut Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX. as the Oklahoma Sooners beat the Stanford Cardinals (Tree) which was a great way to end 2009 and start 2010!

People of El Paso are some of the nicest people we have met on our travels. The fireworks display following the Battle of the Bands the evening before the game lived up to their billing as the best in the Southwest. Even though a cold night, the fireworks were worth every minute of being cold. You can always warm up in the car after with the heat turned up. Global Warming? Not in El Paso.

Now we know why El Paso is the 2nd safest city -- a border fence and Border Patrol agents every where we went. Anyone who wants to see an example of what a border fence can do for an American city on the border needs to look no further then El Paso, TX, where the crime rate has dropped significantly. It is a city on the move after the border fence and strict enforcement by Border Patrol.

Hint to the Democrats and Obama -- BUILD the BORDER FENCE! This talk of amnesty for illegals is nothing more then a ploy by the Democrats to get more voters. There are rules to be followed to become an American citizen -- no political party in charge of Congress should have the authority to change any of those rules.

Two things jumped out at us during the visit to the Sun Bowl. The first was the Stanford so-called band which was anything but a marching band. More like a bunch of juveniles from the 60's. How many bands have a picture of a marijuana plant on their tuba? Only one band and that was Stanford. The lack of class by the Stanford band carried over into the trophy presentation as they continued to play which made it difficult at times to hear what was happening. Guess that is what you can expect from a band led by a drum major dressed as a skunk. Their halftime show made no sense as well. Some of the Sooner fans spotted the blow up sheep they had ready to come out at halftime but someone must have clued them in at the last minute that Oklahoma is not an agriculture university.

Former Secretary of State Condi Rice was at the game and if I were her, I would have been embarrassed to be a member of the faculty with the performance of the Stanford band starting at the Battle of the Bands. The band cannot seem to understand directions. They are not funny but a disgrace to a university who wants to be on par with the Ivy League. We can hope that none of the band members want to make Government employment their goal. Most arrogant fans we ever met come from Stanford.

The second part of the Sun Bowl game was the officiating. To see the officials sprint off the field following the game was hilarious. The Big 10 officials are just as bad as a lot of our Big 12 officiating crews. Something needs to be done by the NCAA to get the officiating out of conference control and break up some of these crews. When announcers on TV are talking about the replay booth blew the call and obvious on the replay at the stadium, you have a problem that is inherent in almost every game you watch on TV or attend. Big 10 officials couldn't even agree among themselves on calls and the head official would over rule the person who saw the play. They also could not keep up with the tempo of the game and kept trying to slow it down so Stanford could get set on defense before play started. Someone needs to clue in the Big 10 that a lot of schools have gone to a hurry up offense not the three yards and a could of dust of Ohio State in the past.

Congress now has time to debate the BCS? There is one tweak the BCS could do to bring back some sanity and that is to bring back strength of scheduling. That would force all schools in the pre-conference schedule to schedule better opponents instead of the puff balls some of the major universities schedule for all three or four games. How can anyone equate the conference schedule of the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, PAC 10, and ACC with the Big East, Mountain West, Sun Belt, Western Athletic, Mid American, and Conference USA. Without strength of scheduling, teams like Cincinnati who went undefeated are going to continue to get clobbered in a BCS game on most occasions. Another thing to be said about playing lack of competition is injuries are much less likely to happen.

The whole system needs revamped to go back to the original where it was much tougher to be rated #1 and an undefeated season didn't mean you would get in a BCS Bowl. Where does all the money come from -- the major five conferences of Division 1 football. Look at the size of the stadiums in the five major conferences versus the other conferences -- not even close in most instances yet they are considered just as powerful according to the tweaked rules of the BCS. This political correctness not to hurt a school's feelings or suing in court to be included is beyond ridiculous.

If the NCAA wants to do something that will benefit, change the way coaches are hired before Bowl Games. It is ridiculous to have a coach take a team through the season and not coach in the Bowl Game. Change recruiting a few weeks and it wouldn't matter if he coaches the Bowl Game.

Who cares if there is a consensus #1 -- most football fans just love to watch good football games.
Didn't mean to start out the New Year on what some people call a frivolous issue, but wanted to highlight how political correctness and Congressional meddling has now hit Division 1 football. Doesn't Congress have enough to do without trying to make everyone equal in D-1 football now?

One last Bowl Game tonight -- National Championship between Alabama (Roll Tide) and Texas (Hook em Horns) -- great way to spend what is obviously going to be a very cold evening in a lot of the Country. Good Luck to both teams! That is our PC for the day!
