A conservative, a moderate, and a liberal walk into a bar.
The bartender says, "Hey Mitt."
That joke has more truth to it then Romney would like us all to believe. When he becomes the actor for the Conservative Romney, most conservatives can see right through his pandering especially when he uses the words 'severely' conservative. Hate to break it to Romney but as an actor he is an epic fail.
Now we are learning that Romney is sitting on plenty of money after having a fundraiser in DC and one on the West Coast so with that info you can expect the scorched earth to begin at any moment against Santorum. The Michigan and Arizona airwaves will be filled with attack ads on Santorum IMO and then unfortunately those of us who vote on Super Tuesday will be the subject of the negative ads by the Romney camp.
For someone who touts themselves as an outsider to DC, Romney has raised a lot of money there. His two favorite places for fundraising seem to be Wall Street and K Street (lobbyist/Congress) which makes his outsider argument mute. He is probably the most insider of all with his connections as his support comes from inside the beltway and the Wall Street financial sectors. Now we learn that he has added the West Coast to fundraising as well. Reminds one of Obama when you think about it as Obama also raises money from Wall Street, K Street, and the West Coast.
How can any pundit still be touting Maine as a win for Romney when Washington County in Maine has yet to caucus. The results of Maine should have been embargoed but since the Maine GOP Chair is an obvious Romneybot, he released the incomplete results for the Sunday News Cycle. Ron Paul people are now as disgusted as the rest of the campaigns have been at Romney -- took long enough to find out the Romney campaign is about as ethical as Obama which means not at all. Romney is now trying to do to Republican candidates what Obama did to Hillary using the caucuses to cheat.
We noted that Maine had a very low turnout but that happens when you leave out one County that didn't hold their caucus which is a county with heavy Ron Paul support. Imagine in Maine not holding a caucus when there is a threat of 3-4 inches of snow which is nothing in Maine. Will the media report the results of the Washington County caucus this week or better yet will the Maine GOP Chairman report the results? The verdict is out.
One thing Romney does very well is throwing money around to buy ballots at straw polls like CPAC so he can win. at websites, and then candidates to get them on his side. If a GOP candidate is having money troubles with his campaign debts, in swoops Romney to help them out so that candidate then is beholding to Romney. How many Republican office holders who endorsed Romney are the recipients of Romney donations? We already know that Bain Capital bought Clear Channel in 2007 before Romney ran for President which is the home of most of the conservative pundits who were originally pushing Romney. Makes you wonder the amount of money Romney has put in this campaign to buy support or in some cases use opposition research to get a person to endorse him.
Money may talk but in the end conservatives have now found their voice and are using it against Romney on blogs across America for starters. Romney's people are having trouble shutting up the bloggers who they never counted to come out against him so strong. In fact, the Romney campaign people who are patrolling the websites to comment are downright obnoxious and demeaning to the rest of us as not being very smart. In fact on one website, a Romneybot called conservatives opposing Romney as the 'redneck' wing of the Party. I guess the battle cry should become "Rednecks Unite against Romney!" That actually makes me laugh
Should be an interesting time between now and voting in Michigan and Arizona especially with Public Policy Polling out with their new Michigan poll showing Santorum leading which will be detailed on here today. Cannot fathom how nasty Romney, the liberal side, is going to be at the results from the state where his Dad was Governor.
Rick Santorum Plans Aggressive Strategy Against Mitt Romney
02/12/12 11:36 PM ET
PORTLAND, Maine — A day after Mitt Romney regained some momentum in the Republican presidential contest, his rival Rick Santorum went on the attack, calling the front-runner "desperate" while promising to compete aggressively to win the state where Romney grew up.
Santorum said Sunday he could do "exceptionally well" in Michigan, where Romney's father served as governor. The Midwestern state and Arizona host Republican presidential nominating contests on Feb. 28.
"We're going to spend a lot of time in Michigan and Arizona, and those are up next. And that's where we've really been focusing on," Santorum told ABC's "This Week." He suggested that a strong showing in those contests would make the presidential contest "a two-man race," dismissing current rivals Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul.
Santorum shrugged off his third-place finish Saturday in caucuses in Maine, where he didn't actively compete, as well as his second-place finish in a straw poll of conservative activists.
Romney has been painting Santorum as a long-time Washington insider who pursued home-state projects. Santorum on Sunday described Romney's recent criticism as "desperate."
"You reach a point where desperate people do desperate things," said Santorum, who represented Pennsylvania during his 16 years in Congress, first in the House and then in the Senate.
Maine GOP officials declared Romney the winner of Saturday's caucuses. The results ended a three-state losing streak to Santorum, who swept contests in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri on Tuesday.
With the next primaries more than two weeks away, the break seems unusually long in the rapid-fire race that's featured six contests in the last 14 days. Romney and his rivals now have 17 days to raise cash and bolster their organizations for what's shaping up to be a slog to the Republican nomination and the right to face President Barack Obama in November.
As Santorum eyes Michigan, Romney turns his attention to extending his huge cash advantage over his rivals.
The Massachusetts governor left Maine before the caucus results were announced to attend a West Coast fundraiser Saturday night. He issued a written statement to mark his victory in the low-turnout contest.
"I'm heartened to have the support of so many good people in this great state," Romney said in the statement. "The voters of Maine have sent a clear message that it is past time to send an outsider to the White House."
Romney is expected to spend much of next week courting donors, while sprinkling in a handful of campaign events. He'll be in Arizona Monday evening.
Romney won a plurality of the Maine vote just hours after winning the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Committee conference in Washington.
But questions about Romney's durability as his party's presumed front-runner persist. Fully 61 percent of Maine voters selected a candidate other than Massachusetts' former governor in a state practically in his backyard. And Romney's showing was down considerably from 2008, when he won 51 percent of the vote.
