Former South Carolina State House Speaker David Wilkins summed up what so many of us like about Governor Perry:
In his remarks, Perry had to this say about South Carolina:
His latest on rules on diversity for government hiring is reverse discrimination and should be challenged in court. Obviously he missed the 70's when to get promoted you needed to be a minority and the job only went to whites when there were no minorities. Why is it that liberal Democrats have total disdain for hiring the most qualified no matter the race? Rev Martin Luther King wanted equality so the color of a man's skin didn't matter. The first black President has been a dismal failure because his goal is to push people into government jobs no matter if they are qualified as long as they are a minority. This is the liberal agenda rising up again after all these years. He didn't hear a word of what Rev King had to say.
How many executive orders is he going to sign as he realizes his days are numbered? We expect hundreds if not more. Obama cares about Obama and taking care of his friends not about what is good for America -- the proof is in the record of exemptions on Obamacare that favor unions.
On the opposite side is Rick Perry who the words God, Family, and Country are what he lives by every day of the year. Did President Reagan tone down his love of God and Country on the campaign trail? No way -- he energized all of us as he went around the Country. The same is true of Governor Perry and people from coast to coast will see what we have seen in Governor Perry as he goes across America with his campaign.
“I’m sure all of you have many things in common with Governor Perry, and that’s the point,” Wilkins said. “Governor Perry is one of us.Perry grew up in West Texas on a tenant farm, graduated from the land grant university Texas A&M, served in the Air Force flying C-130's around the world, returned to West Texas after the Air Force to enter farming and eventually ran for the Texas House -- the rest is history. One thing is certain -- Rick Perry has been a fiscal conservative with a strong background of faith for years who understands what Americans are going through with this bad economy. He truly is one of us.
In his remarks, Perry had to this say about South Carolina:
“a conservative beacon on the eastern seaboard of this country. It is truly a bright light.”When you stop to think about, it is true. No one doubts if South Carolina is going to be a Red State in 2012 as their chances of voting for Obama and turning into a blue state is about as much as Oklahoma which is zero, zip, nada. You never see South Carolina listed as a Battleground State on any poll. This was a former Democrat state which over the years became Republican but they have always been conservative like so many other of the southern states.
“It is time for change,” Perry said. “Not rhetoric of change, but a record of change. We will get America workin’ again. God bless you.”Obama's campaign in 2008 was all rhetoric -- the only change he wanted was taking this Country far to the left to suit his agenda. Obama's rhetoric has never stopped since he took office as well as always being in campaign mode as he fails to govern. He never takes responsibility for anything preferring to blame everyone else. He is an empty suit and always will be no matter how hard the media tries to make him into a leader. He wants to govern with executive orders and doesn't see why he should deal with Congress.
His latest on rules on diversity for government hiring is reverse discrimination and should be challenged in court. Obviously he missed the 70's when to get promoted you needed to be a minority and the job only went to whites when there were no minorities. Rick Perry attacks Obama and picks up key endorsement in South Carolina
By Philip Rucker, Saturday, August 20, 10:37 AM
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Texas Gov. Rick Perry continued to barrel across the Palmetto State on Saturday, picking up a prized endorsement here in the heart of South Carolina’s most conservative and evangelical region.
More than 400 curious partisans packed Tommy’s Country Ham House to check out the latest Republican presidential hopeful — the largest crowd assembled at this iconic political eggs-bacon-and-grits joint since another Texas governor, George W. Bush, was running for president in 2000.
As Perry walked through the restaurant with his wife Anita, he made clear that his hopes of winning the Republican nomination rest with South Carolina. “We’re going to campaign in South Carolina with fervor,” Perry said, calling the state ....
Fortunately for Perry, one of the state’s most influential Republicans, former state House speaker David Wilkins, who served as Bush’s ambassador to Canada, embraced him here.
Wilkins ticked through the bullet-points of Perry’s biography: married with two grown children, a Southerner, a conservative, started his political career at age 34, served in uniform, attended a land-grant university.
“I’m sure all of you have many things in common with Governor Perry, and that’s the point,” Wilkins said. “Governor Perry is one of us. He is someone that we can relate to, he is someone that we can connect with, he is someone that we can believe in. And governor, South Carolina is a small state, but we have a big heart. We want our government to do a few things — a few things — and do them well, and then get out of the way.”
At that, shouts of “Amen!” rang out among the crowd.
Perry is aggressively building a campaign organization in South Carolina, home to the first primary in the South, where evangelical Christians make up a sizeable portion of the Republican primary electorate. Perry, who laces his comments with references to his faith, is expected to do well here ...
Perry secured a slew of endorsements from state legislators and other South Carolina Republican figures in recent days, advisers said, and plans to begin rolling some of them out as early as next week.
....
At the Ham House here, Perry spoke for only five minutes but left no doubts about what his campaign would be about.
“We may talk about a hundred different issues by being asked different questions, but let me tell ya, every time I’m going to come back to the issue that is most important to Americans, and that is, ‘How are we going to get this country workin’ again, sir?’” Perry said.
“The answer is: we’re gonna cut the taxes, we’re gonna lower the regulations, we’re gonna get the lawyers out of our business, and we’re gonna get America back workin’ again.”
....
“The Obama Administration recently referred to food stamps as economic stimulus,” Perry said. “Food stamps are not the solution. They are a symptom of a problem, Mr. President. There’s too many people out of work. Most Americans don’t yearn to be dependent on government. They want economic freedom. Economic freedom comes from work and wages, not welfare.”
