Who does Vilsack think is paying for these food stamps? It is obvious by his comments that he doesn't give one thought that the American taxpayer is footing the bill. Maybe we should all quit making money and go on food stamps so we can create jobs? Vilsack is acting like money for this program grows on trees.
What an absolute insult to the American taxpayer -- only jobs created are for the people who handle the food stamps/cards, loosely check to see if someone is qualified, and give them free money for doing zero, zip, nada. If someone is going to get food stamps, then let them do community service to get the food stamps if they are able bodied. Have never had a problem with elderly people with limited income getting food stamps, but I sure do with people who are able to work.
Why should welfare people work? Free food, free cell phone, free housing, free utilities, and now free car payments so they can get around. Do they give them a gas card as well? Forgot the free school supplies, Medicaid for healthcare, and clothing. Those cards that were supposed to cut the fraud are turning into a venue to get cash. Buy on the card, take back the items, and get cash. Then go to the food pantry's for your food. Great system we have to reward people for not working.
This article made my blood boil -- does Vilsack not pay taxes? Tired of bleeding heart liberals, and we must help the poor and downtrodden when a program like this rewards them instead of encouraging them to go find a job. Ever been in a grocery behind someone using the card/food stamps and notice they must eat pretty good and then look at their food -- every junk food you can imagine. Then when their kids go to school they get free lunch and breakfast but no cut to food stamps. Guess a sack lunch is out -- guess that only applies to people who work for a living that pack their students lunch.
Obama Agriculture Secretary: Food Stamps Create JobsTuesday, August 16, 2011
(CNSNews.com) – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack repeated the White House claim that food stamps and other forms of government welfare are stimulus programs in disguise, stating that when government gives out money, it is creating jobs.
“But I should point out that when you talk about the SNAP program or the food stamp program, you have to recognize that it’s also an economic stimulus,” Vilsack said Tuesday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe program. (SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.)
“If people are able to buy a little more in the grocery store, then someone has to stock it, shelve it, process it, package it, ship it,” he said. “All of those are jobs. It’s the most direct stimulus you can get in the economy during these tough times.”
Vilsack made his remarks in response to a question from MSNBC commentator Wes Moore about a recent Agriculture Department report that approximately 46 million people, or about 1 in 7 Americans, now receive food stamps.
Vilsack claimed that by redistributing money from taxpayers to those on food stamps, the government is indirectly creating jobs because welfare beneficiaries will spend their food stamp monies immediately, rather than save it or invest it.
This claim, however, obscures the fact that both saving and investment are also economically productive activities contributing to credit availability and business growth respectively. It also ignores the fact that taxpayers whose money is used to fund food stamp programs may have spent their money on other things, including food, thus also contributing to the economy.
Source: CNSMay not come down off the ceiling for awhile after reading this crap from the Agriculture Secretary who also wants new rules and regulations that would hurt the farmer and rancher who actually produce our food. That would raise the price of food for those of us who have to pay for the food with our own money. Every facet of this Administration is about new rules and regulations that hurt the economy. Maybe Obama and his minions want all of us on welfare so we are beholding to the Government for our existence.
