"A wise and frugal government which shall restrain men
from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government."

Radio Address by President Ronald Reagan on the Debt Ceiling, Sep 26, 1987

That's an Adult Moment

This video shows just how smart he was when it came to the debt ceiling.

This is dedicated to all those politicians and their followers who believe that allowing the United States to go into default with not raising the debt ceiling is the way to go. They love to quote President Reagan when it suits their agenda and ignore him when he doesn't follow their agenda. No one can spin what he had to say about the debt ceiling in 1987 -- it is as true today as it was then.

The politicians who yell the loudest about not raising the debt ceiling have no plan of their own but they say an automatic "NO" without bothering to see the details. The lack of knowledge of how the Government works by some members of Congress on both sides is disturbing not to mention their followers who are worse.  We have a group of Freshman Congressman that need a dose of reality because they thought they could go to the White House and deliver a letter to the President but were ignored.  It was pure grandstanding which needs to cease on both sides.  The arrogance by some of the Congressional people knows no bounds today.

Leadership of the House who were elected to lead the House for these two years vowed to not be like the Democrats were for the last four years and to allow members of Congress to have their say before voting.  They have a voice for their constituents even though those same people tried to silence Republicans.

Republican Leadership has shown what it is like to be the adults in charge.  Shame some Tea Party people cannot see the forest for the trees as they attack Republicans more than Democrats which is beginning to make their voices have less clout.  When you are always threatening people, pretty soon those people who are threatened are going to turn a deaf ear.

Too many people in the Tea Party have no idea how the Government works and thought they could elect one branch of Congress and they would get everything they wanted.  That was so naive but then we have been seeing naive comments for years from so-called conservatives who will get behind someone who cannot get elected rather then support somone they agree with 80% of the time which is also the Reagan percentage for choosing candidates.  Very smart man.
